Like You Lyrics

Stay low.
Soft, dark, and dreamless,
Far beneath my nightmares and loneliness.
I hate me,
For breathing without you.
I don't want to feel anymore for you.

Grieving for you,
I'm not grieving for you.
Nothing real love can't undo,
And...

OK EVERYONE KNOWS THIS IS ABOUT BONNIE WHO DIED WHEN SHE WAS THREE AND AMY WAS SIX BUT THIS MIGHT HELP U UNDERSTAND ALL OF IT-

    Stay low
    soft, dark, and dreamless
far beneath my nightmares and loneliness
(TELLING BONNIE TO STAY LOW AND WAIT FOR HER)

    I hate me
    for breathing without you
(SHE FEELS GUILTY THAT BONNIE DIED AND NOT HER)
I don't want to feel anymore for you
(SHE DOESN'T WANT TO FEEL ANYMORE FOR BONNIE COS IT HURTS SO MUCH)
    grieving for you
    I'm not grieving for you
    nothing real love can't undo
(SHE IS NOT GRIEVE FOR HER ANYMORE BUT SHE MISES HER HEAPS-THERES A DIFFERENCE YOU KNOW)
and though I may have lost my way
all paths lead straight to you
(AND EVEN THO SHE HAS LOST HER WAY IN HER JOURNEY WITH HER SISTER,HAS BECOME SEPARATED FROM HER, ITS OK COS SHE KNOWS THAT WHATEVER PATH SHE TAKES IN LIFE WILL EVENTUALLY LEAD TO DEATH AND SO SHE KNOWS THAT NOTHING WILL STOP HER FROM BEING WITH BONNIE EVENTUALLY)
I long to be like you
lie cold in the ground like you
(NOT SO MUCH SHE WANTS TO DIE BUT THAT SHE WOULD DO ANYTHING TO SEE HER SISTER AGAIN SOON)

    Halo
    blinding wall between us
melt away and leave us alone again
(THE WALL BETWEEN LIFE AND DEATH MELTING AWAY WHEN AMY EVENTUALLY DIES)
    humming, haunted somewhere out there
(SHE IS THINKING OF HER SISTER SOMEWHERE OUT THERE WAITING FOR AMY TO COME TO HER, BONNIE IS AS HAUNTED BY THEIR SEPARATION AS AMY IS)
I believe our love can see us through in death
(SHE BELIEVES THAT THEIR LOVE IS SO STRONG THAT THEY WILL BE TOGETHER WHEN SHE DIES)

I long to be like you
lie cold in the ground like you
(SHE WANTS TO BE WITH HER SISTER)
there's room inside for two and I'm not grieving for you
    (SHE MISSES HER)
    I'm coming for you
(SHE IS GOING TO DIE EVENTUALLY)

    You're not alone
no matter what they told you you're not alone
I'll be right beside you forevermore
(WHATEVER HAPPENS SHE WILL ALWAYS BE THERE FOR BONNIE)

I long to be like you, sis
lie cold in the ground like you did
there's room inside for two and I'm not grieving for you
and as we lay in silent bliss
    I know you remember me
(AMY IS THINKING OF WHAT THE AFTERLIFE REUNION WILL BE LIKE)
I long to be like you
lie cold in the ground like you
there's room inside for two and I'm not grieving for you
    I'm coming for you
(I THINK I'V EXPLAINED THIS VERSE)

*I think a real sweet way of thinking about Bonie is that her dying was a terrible disaster but in all bad things there are good things and if her sister had lived amy would never have known such powerful love as shown in this song... anyone who has read a book by Alice Sebold called The Lovely Bones which follows the family of a girl after she died will understand this point of view*

And once again the 16yr old hu should be doing his homework has wasted more time on the internet.

When read, the lyrics obviously are about her sister (bonnie) who died at age three (when amy was six) and how amy doesn't want to live without her anymore, she's mad at herself for living and being happy when her sister is lying in the ground. Dead.

    "I hate me
    for breathing without you
i don't want to feel anymore for you"

she can't live without her sister anymore, and she wants to be beside her sister all the time...Right next to her.

"I long to be like you, sis
lie cold in the ground like you did
there's room inside for two and I'm not grieving for you
and as we lay in silent bliss"

this song is obviously about how much she misses her sister.

Although there is a simple and logical explanation, I believe that she is one of the (Fallen). And mourns the father and her brothers and sisters of the light. This is reflected in most of her songs

This song was written by Amy, about her dead sister Bonnie, who died at the age of 3 (Amy being only 6). Her sister died of an unknown disease. Amy wrote 2 songs for Bonnie: 'Like you' and 'Hello.'

    "I hate me,
For breathing without you." - this stands for that she hates being alive when Bonnie is dead.

"I long to be like you,
Lie cold in the ground like you." - means that she'd rather be dead with her sister, then be alive without her.

" There's room inside for two and I'm not grieving for you,
I'm coming for you." - means that she wants to be with her sister in the ground and that she's not grieving because she wants to be with her and she says that she's coming.

    "You're not alone,
No matter what they told you, you're not alone.
I'll be right beside you forevermore."- means that Amy will always be there spiritually with Bonnie, no matter what.

This song is about how much she loves her sister and that she'll do anything to be with her sister.

It is a beautiful song, so full of real love.

this is about amy's sister bonnie who died at 3, when amy was 6. she's saying that she's tired of living on her own when her sister can't.

    I hate me,
For breathing without you. - she can't stand the fact that she's alive and her sister isn't
I don't want to feel anymore for you. - i dont think this means that she doesn't want to grieve for her sister anymore, it means 'i don't want to be feeling life on behalf of yoiu, you should be able to feel for yourself

    Grieving for you,
I'm not grieving for you. - maybe coz she feels her sister is still with her, but more likely she's saying that she doesn't feel like she's grieving coz that means that you believe their gone whereas she wants to see her sister again
And though I may have lost my way,
All paths lead straight to you. - she's realised that everything wrong in her life, and everything she feels is because of how much she misses her sister

I long to be like you,
Lie cold in the ground like you. - this doesn't mean that she wants to die, but just that she know dying is the only way to see her sister again and so she wants to join her

    Halo,
Blinding wall between us. - heaven i assume

    Humming, haunted somewhere out there.
I believe our love can see us through in death. - she believes that because of how much the sister's love each other they can 'overcome any obstacles', even death

I long to be like you,
Lie cold in the ground like you.
There's room inside for two and I'm not grieving for you,
I'm coming for you. - theres a way for amy to join her sister, and she's grieving, so whatever it is she'll take it. she's coming

    You're not alone,
No matter what they told you, you're not alone.
I'll be right beside you forevermore. - we're not parted even though you're dead and i'm not

I long to be like you, sis,
Lie cold in the ground like you did. - the past tense suggests that she knows that her sister is gone to heaven and is beyond amy's reach, but amy's going coming after her anyway
There's room inside for two and I'm not grieving for you.

And as we lay in silent bliss, - her sisters silent but amy feels she's there
I know you remember me. - they're still together

I long to be like you,
Lie cold in the ground like you.
There's room inside for two and I'm not grieving for you,
I'm coming for you. - like before

    this is a beautiful song...

I think it's definately about her sister but i don't think it's so much her wanting to commit suicide i think it's saying how everyone will die someday and she is on her way to death , just like we all are , morbid though that seems. so yeah i don't think amy lee's planning suicide at least i hope not. And by the way in that last chorus it's not "lie cold in the ground like you did" it's "lie cold in the ground like you dear"

First off: everyone who thinks this is about Bonnie is totally on the mark. It's as simple as that. Amy has already said that this song is the "Hello" of Open Door, so yeah.

Second: I have the piano sheets for this song along with the official lyrics and it goes:

    "Halo,
    Blinding wall between us,
Melt away and leave us alone again!
THE humming..." yeah, nobody thought to mention "the", not overall important, but still.

Third: here's something that's interesting: the old lyric sheets never had the "I long to be like you, sis," it just went "I long to be like you, lie cold in the ground like you". It's also kind of... off, with the beat. I mean, I absolutely love it, don't get me wrong. It sounds as though Amy just spontaneously blurted out "sis" and "did" while recording the song. It's just... Interesting.

Like is a follow up to Hello, but I think that Like You is more blunt, dark, and straight foreward than Hello was.

It's about her little sister, Bonnie, who died at the age of three of an unknown illness (some say she drowned). In this song, I think Amy is saying how she misses her sister so very much, and that she's tired of grieving uncontrollably. She deeply wants to be with her sister. I think that there is a hint of suicide in this song, but I could be wrong. For example the: I long to be like you, lie cold in the ground like you," part. It's also Amy saying that no matter what happens, she will never stop loving her sister.

Like you is a follow up song to hello it's about how she lost her sister and no so much that she wants to be dead like her as some of the lyrics suggest ‘I long to be like you, sis, lie cold in the ground like you did’ but that she wishes she could be with her sister and is angry at her self for being alive without her ‘I hate me for breathing without you’ its such a beautiful song. It truly shows how much she misses her sister and how much she loves her and will always love her.

I think the line that really gets me is:
    "nothing real love can't undo"
as in, they will always love each other, and not even death can stop that. But isn't:
    "i'm not greving for you
    i'm comming for you"
    a little suicidal?
Oh, and I just listened to the song a few seconds ago and heard the "sis and death" part, well, duh, but I thought that was interesting.

Haha, evanescencefreak really summed it up well.

It's kind of hard to misinterpret this song, unless you can't understand what she's saying.

I think the most touching part is when she says "you're not alone - not matter what they told you, you're not alone. I'll be right beside you forevermore."

I like it because amy saying that she'll be there for her sis, not just grieving about the "blinding wall" between them. Instead, she's actually gonna do something about it instead of just sitting back and mourning forever.

On the other hand, I really really hope amy doesn't go off and kill herself ><

That's a really good interpretation. To me it's a blend of "hello" and "even in death", and it really struck me the first time I heard it. They don't include it in the lyrics, but she says "sis" and "dear" after the last chorus, which is really touching. I'm wondering if they're going to play this one live or not.
