Evanescence: Taking Over Me Meaning
Taking Over Me Lyrics
i lie awake and try so hard not to think of you
but who can decide what they dream?
and dream i do...
i believe in you
i'll give up everything just to find you
i have to be with you to live to...

I think that this song is about a person in her dreams that has appeared more than once, and she knows that he is real, no matter what people say. She is obsessed with finding him and will not stop until she does. Hence, the name.

This song moved me during a time when I thought I had lost myself in a bad marriage. I wanted to be the happy person that I used to be. I knew that I could be that person again and I would give up everything to find myself again! It was therapeutic and helped me believe in myself that I was still that carefree happy girl!

All your interpretations are great but I believe she is singing bout someone you really like and treasured but has died. It's really tough losing someone you really love.

Basically, I feel this song is about love [though it took me all the way up until a few weeks ago to realize it - I never really analyzed the lyrics]. Sometimes there are people in our lives that are so important, be feel that we have to be with them to be complete. Strangely, I've had a lot of connection with this song lately, though I do not really know why....

OOOh! I loved this song so much, I wrote a story about it! @.@
Okay, in the story, a girl and a demon (yes, demon, lol) are happily in love. Then another guy comes in and catches the girl's attention. Since he was from the same realm as her, it's better. At least something in her head thought so.
The demon doesn't mind because he knows she will always love HIM better... but to be continued because I gotta go. And btw this part isn't about the song. That comes later. -
I think it's about someone who she maybe just met once, but already has feelings for. She realizes how foolish it would be to love someone she won't see again, so she tries to fight it off, and it works- until she falls asleep (but who can decide what they dream, and dream I do)
2nd verse: when she's finally convinced herself she doesn't love him, she feels like she's missing something, and they meet again, and she knows how she feels.
Pretty much, for me it's about being in a vulnerable state where you think you have feelings for everyone you meet- so you learn to fight it off every time it happens, and then you meet the one you really love and you know it but don't realize it so you try to fight it off again. -
I think this song is about loving someone deeply after they have left and feeling that they will never care about you, and how you would do anything to really know them.
-
In reply to evanescencefreak's interpretation, that's what I basically think too, only I disagree about the fact that he has gone somewhere. It's possible to be in love with someone who doesn't know you, and therefore you can't "find" them - reach out to them. I don't think the line that reads "i'll give up everything just to find you" is quite that literal.
