Fall Out Boy: Champion Meaning
Song Released: 2017
Champion Lyrics
I'm calling you from the future
To let you know we've made a mistake
There's a fog from the past that's giving me, giving me such a headache
And I'm back with a madness
I'm a champion of the people who don't believe in...

So for me this song has multiple meanings (hear me out). Pete is the lyrist and if you know about the history of the band and what he's experienced, you know that he has gone through multiple difficult experiences where he felt depressed and attempted suicide. Fall Out Boy also went through a lot of hate for their music and just had a hard time finding themselves. From finding their sound and Pete dealing with a girl cheating on him in TTTYG to dealing with the pressure of the world and feeling insignificant in FUTCT, then to the drugs and depression of IOH and FàD, then with the hiatus where they got over the hate, and then to SR&R saying they were back and back strong and they didn't care what people thought, and then onto AB/AP with looking back on their experiences but also moving forward. They made it now to M A N I A and to me, this album so far represents finally beating the hard times and depression and looking forward to the future with hope. In Champion, it starts with "I'm calling you from the future/ to let you know we've made our mistakes" and this to me is Pete talking to his past self saying that hes made his mistakes and he's gone through/ will go through a lot. But then it says "if I can live through this, I can do anything". This represents that Pete acknowledges that he's gotten through the hardest part of his life, and now he feels hope for the future. This is like the happy ending of Fall Out Boy's journey. It made me cry a ton thinking about it. It could also give hope to the kids who think their situation is impossible. It lets them know that if they can get through it, they can accomplish so much. I personally just love it so much
