Florence + the Machine: Breaking Down Meaning
Breaking Down Lyrics
It was always there you see
And even on my own
It was always standing next to me
I can see it coming from the edge of the room
Creeping in the streetlight
Holding my hand in the pale gloom
Can you see it coming now?
Oh, I...
-
It's about depression and sometimes feeling like you're isolated. Florence wrote this song as a form to describe the fact that she feels depression and it's hard to escape from it. When she mentions "i can see it from the edge of the room" means she knows the depression is already there.
-
I believe it has to do with depression/negativefeelings and how she can never seem to escape it. Hence the lyrics "i think I'm breaking down again" and others.
-
I think that this is about paranoia, depression, guilt, sadness, and other depressing feelings creeping up on her when she's on her own, when she was a child, and wherever she goes, she can't avoid it.
-
My interpretation of Breaking Down is that she is very depressed and is all alone. The depression is always creeping up on her. She welcomes it. "And I can see it coming from the edge of the room, creeping in the street light" means that everywhere she goes, there is no escape from the sadness. But then her old friend finally comes to her. But I think her friend may have died or left her once again. I can tell by the next chorus. She is sadder this time and the chorus progresses with a louder voice and that is how you can tell there is more pain.
-
I think it could be about paranoia, and how even with her eyes shut she can "see it coming" and how she's "breaking down again" could be suggesting depression or paranoia
-
i think it may be about someone who is hallucinating, "i can see it coming from the edge of the room, even with my eyes shut tight, i still see it coming now, i think i'm breaking down again". or judging by flo's other songs, it could be that she is depressed and is feeling suicidal, " i think im breaking down again" like, she is depressed again
