Florence + the Machine: No Light No Light Meaning
Song Released: 2011
No Light No Light Lyrics
You are the space in my bed
You are the silence in between
What I thought and what I said
You are the night time fear
You are the morning when it's clear
When it's over, you will start
You're my head, you're...

#1 top rated interpretation:This song is simply about truth. But a truth that is "violent", in other words it hurts.
The very title shows this. Light illuminates everything and casts everything out in the open. However the song makes it clear that this truth is not exactly something to be desired. "No light, no light" it seems like it is saying two things. One, it is saying that the hoped for light at the end of the tunnel is not really there. Such a light would bring comfort and relief, but that is not the case, hence there is no light in that sense. Two, it is also like a child's reject response. When a toddler that has same speech capability does not want something, they would say "no (subject)". This is then critical of those who would shrug off the truth and would rather cling to blissful ignorance, saying that people like that are behaving like children.
So this is what the song is about. The collective and individual struggle in dealing with the truth. The truth your relationship is dead. The truth your traditions are false. The truth that all you knew and held dear...is a lie. So embrace the light. Heaven help you make it right. -
He is with his wife who is dying. She dies and there in no light in her eyes. She was everything to him - his light. He wants a revelation, a resolution, an explanation, but she is dying. He cannot choose what stays and what fades away. No light in her blue eyes, he never knew daylight could be so violent - she has died in front of him in the daylight of the afternoon. A revelation in the light of day. He wants a revelation, but its a conversation she cannot have tonite. She dies.

This song reminds me of a girl who suffers borderline personality disorder. She tries to save her relationship or fix it but, can't. The boy at the same time tries to work with her but, there was so much damaged done. The light in the boys blue eyes slowly stopped loving her or have no feelings to her because of what she did. It's a lot to do with cheating and she was doing it for a good long time. The relationship failed so, they went about their separate ways.

I think this song is about a relationship. I think it is also more or less about addiction, and it's consuming the relationship whole. She wants to save it, but it's taking a toll on both of them. She is nervous that if she tells him about her deep, dark "secret" , it doesn't even have to be an addiction that he will leave her. It's like he wants to know, "revelation" "revolution" He wants things to change, and so does she, but she is scared to risk it. She is torn, there is no more light in her eyes or his. "Heaven help me, I need to make it right." She wants to change, just scared or don't know how.
Risk vs. Reward. Is it worth it? -
This song is well written, giving the listener an opportunity to give the song various meanings. When I think about the song I relate the song lyrics to various aspects of my life. Mostly my relationships, and the secrets that we hide from those ones we love the most. I also believe it can be implied as a falling from grace and the seeking of redemption. Whether the wrong doing was an affair, a secret addiction, or any other engagement that would one consider extremely hurtful to another.
The lyric implies suspicions or awareness of something wrong with-in a relationship.
You are the hole in my head
You are the space in my bed
You are the silence in between what I thought
And what I said
You are the night time fear
You are the morning when it's clear
When it's over you'll start
You're my head
You're my heart
I think the above verses indicate the unconditional love.
Through the crowd, I was crying out
And in your place there were a thousand other faces
I was disappearing in plain sight
Heaven help me, I need to make it right
She/he felt invisible and meaningless, that lead to a hurtful action.
Would you leave me,
If I told you what I've done?
And would you need me,
If I told you what I've become?
'cause it's so easy,
To say it to a crowd
But it's so hard, my love,
To say it to you out loud
The feelings of guilt.
No light, no light in your bright blue eyes
I never knew daylight could be so violent
A revelation in the light of day,
You can't choose what stays and what fades away
And I'd do anything to make you stay
No light, no light
No light
Tell me what you want me to say!
So the relationship is becoming hopeless, "No light, no light in your bright blue eyes" Its easier to carry the guilt and deflect as if nothing is wrong, than to admit and cause anymore hurt. -
i think its about how the woman has kept so many secrets from this man so many times and he stays but hes anout to leave and she loves him so much she'd do anything; say anything...."tell me what you me to say" she finally breaks down......"would you leave me if i told you what i'd done." the relationship is dying

It's about a dying relationship, the lyrics tell the story of how she is trying desperately to hold it together as she drifts further apart from her love. It starts with her telling him what he means to her, but with the chorus, the frustration shows through. "No light, No light" meaning no hope, no love. She desperately wants to keep the relationship going, but can't.

cant you see that she is the one abusing....he wants answer, he loves her. he wants to be allowed into the real that is just out of reach. she keeps him, yet cant be honest...she controls him. he is trapped, and though she hates it and hates that its all she has to give, she is powerless to change and thus wishes she could explain but that he wouldnt see the real and walk away. she cant find a way to express to him that her great need of him transcends the common "love" that eludes her.

I think "No Light, No Light" is about an abusive relationship. She says there is "no light, no light in your bright blue eyes", which probably means that there is no kindness in those beautiful eyes of his. "tell me what you want me to say" means she is giving up because she feels she can never be good enough for him."I never knew daylight could be so violent" means that she never knew that the one she loves could treat her like this. "i'd do anything to make you stay" meaning, he wants to leave herbut she wont let him leave, he is abusive, yet she can't let him leave because for some reason she still loves him. "you want a revelation,You wanna get it right
But, it's a conversation,
I just can't have tonight" means that he expects so much from her and they are arguing about that -
My interpretation of "No light, No light" is that she is in an abusive relationship- "No light, no light in your bright blue eyes" and "I never knew daylight could be so violent". She loves him yet she fears him at times- "you are the night time fear, you are the morning when its clear. She is so caught up in this relationship and she loves him even though he abuses her and he is threatening to leave- "I would do anything just to make you stay". She is conflicted and is asking him if he wants her and what he wants from her- "You want a revelation,You wanna get it right But, it's a conversation, I just can't have tonight... tell me what you want me to say".

I think this song is Her talking to Jesus during the "end of time" days ,explained in the book of Revelation, when the world turns to a place off even more battle, heartache, and pain. A world where there is "no light"
