I hope you make it to the day you're 28 years old

#1 top rated interpretation:It's about a guy who has desperately lost his way in life, so in return, he turns to heroin..no matter how hard he tries to make it through life he just can't so he fills the emptiness with drugs

2TOP RATED
#2 top rated interpretation:Ok,ok, I know this song is for Matty Healy from the band The 1975, but now talking about the lyrics meaning...
There's thwasself pitied guy, who is sad/depressed because of the problems he claims to have "YOU SAID your mother only smiled on her tv show".
And releases his issues on drugs "you're only happy when your sorry head is filled with dope, I hope you'll make it to the day you're 28..." and he sort of 'looks for reasons to be sad' or 'looks for sasadness'And he went to look for it in her because SHE was blue!
Still she seems to appreciate and maybe even love him, even though he doesn't "you ripped at every edge but you're a masterpiece"
"Everything is blue, his pills, his hands, his jeans" so here "blue" means a bad state of spirit. "His pills", because he probably takes antidepressants or drugs...
The gray part might refer to the clip, or it's just his already faded dreams.
Anyway, for me the most important part is here when she says "You were red, and you liked me because I was blue"
Here we can infer that he actually made up his own problems and he is not blue in his spirit state, but blue attracts him! So he liked her because she was ACTUALLY blue, maybe her issues were deeper than his.
"But you touched me and suddently I was a lilac sky, and you decided purple just wasn't for you"
Then they got together, and her blue reacted to his red, he was good to her mind state, and maybe this made her happier. But he was probably actually expecting HER BLUE to affect him, and in the end she was better, and he realized that he liled her better when she was in a worse state. -
I think it’s a song about abusive or hardly there parents and trying to live your life with them. But also about change and how people change. From full of color to grey.

This song was about matty healy from the band the 1975.

So ill go through this based off of the music video:
(The MV's story is that Halsey is in love with her boyfriend's father, and so is her mother)
"Your little brother never tells you but he loves you so/ You said your mother only smiled on her TV show/Youre only happy when your I hope you make it to the day your 28 years old"
So there shes describing her boyfriend, all of his flaws and how hes always complaining about his life.
"Youre dripping like a saturated sunrise/ youre spilling like an overflowing sink/ youre ripped at every edge but youre a masterpiece/ and now I'm tearing through the pages and the ink"
Here she could be describing either her boyfriend or his dad, that shes in love with. Shes saying that hes imperfect but she thinks hes perfect.
"Everything is blue/ his pills, his hands, his jeans/ and now I'm covered in the colors pulled apart at the seams/ and its blue~"
So she- According to the MV, is in love with her boyfriends dad (I mentioned that like 3 times already XD). Shes describing how the dad is getting old, so he takes medications, how he works so hard his hands are blue, and the way he always wears jeans(?).
"Everything is grey, his hair, his smoke his dreams/ and now hes so devoid of color he don't know what it means"
Shes describing how his hair is turning grey, how he smokes, and how he doesn't have any more goals that he wants to accomplish. -
A song about forbidden love and the lies we tell to get closer to what we want.
