Harry Styles: Fine line Meaning
Fine line Lyrics
I'm looking for something to buy
You've got my devotion
But man, I can hate you sometimes
I don't want to fight you
And I don't wanna sleep in the dirt
We'll get the drinks in
So I'll get to thinking of her
We'll be...

#1 top rated interpretation:In life you will never be truly happy or sad notice how the song starts of sad and geta happier towards the end telling you that its okay because you'll live a fine line of both
-
2TOP RATED
#2 top rated interpretation:this song is saying that there’s times where you’re going to be happy and times where you’re going to be sad, there’s always a fine line between them. he’s saying he’s always going to love this person but there’s also dark times. there’s a fine line with drinking and being happy but when he’s alone and by himself he’ll be thinking of her and that’s the sadness part. when he says you sunshine you temptress she’s the light and she’s tempted to her but when he says my wrists, i told he’s scared of showing feelings to them and he shys away. when he says “spreading you open is the only way of knowing you” he thinks that’s the only time where he gets to know her and where she’s able to show her feelings. at the end he reflects on how he/they will be alright and there’s always just a fine line.

3TOP RATED
#3 top rated interpretation:I think it basically means that they’re never going to be a perfect relationship, but they’re also never going to be a horrible relationship since fine line kind of means it’s in between. But in Harry’s eyes being a fine line is enough for him because in the end he says “we’ll be alright” meaning that since the relationship isn’t great, but it isn’t horrible either, they’ll be alright.
Btw never ever be in a predicament where this is how you feel. Being a fine line relationship is not okay and you should never settle for less. In a relationship, you’re either going to be perfect, or horrible for each other. There’s really no in between. I’d rather have a horrible relationship than to be a fine line because fine lines are never, and will never be enough. At least you can fix horrible relationships by realizing what you both did wrong and fixing it, or maybe just breaking up.
Alr that was my little rant, remember to tpwk (If they deserve it ofc, it’s alr to not tpwk sometimes!) -
the song starts off with the lyrics “put a price on emotion, i’m looking for something to buy” stating that the relationship is so strained or so empty that the narrator is willing to do anything to feel any kind something just to feel something more than an empty void.
“you’ve got my devotion but man i can hate you sometimes” this is an obvious statement of how the narrator feels about the person they are in the relationship with.. saying I love you so much but you do all these things or you say all these things that make me hate you but i’m so devoted to you that I can’t just get up and leave the relationship.
the song continues to say that there is a fine line between love and hate for this person and maybe even themselves in the relationship. you have lines such as “we’ll get the drinks in so i’ll get to thinking of her” maybe has some kind of cheating reference and acknowledging that the narrator has also done things to strain the relationship just as much as the other person has. it’s a two way street. Harry then includes “spreading you open is the only way of knowing you” harry tells about the relationship being so strained due to their faults and differences that they can’t be emotionally available anymore and the only thing keeping each other informed about one another is the physicality of the relationship now. -
Fine Line is what happens when you accept a relationship with the Music Industry that is largely Satanic in nature. Most of Hollywood and the Music Industry is owned, run by Satanists. An artist has to live, dress, act and do whatever his / her Handlers tell them to do in exchange for the multiple perks to their lives and careers. The artist might both love and hate this situation. Harry Styles both loves and sometimes hates the arrangement he has made to be able to be who he is, have what he has. Harry Styles walks that fine line between darkness and light.

You sunshine you temptress my hand’s at risk I fold” she seduces him with sex bc it’s the only way they know how to be close to each other in the relationship, he wants to talk abt it and sit down but he doesn’t know how to, so he gives up trying to fix things and results in having sex with her.
“You’ve got my devotion, but man I can hate u sometimes”
She has his trust and he’s afraid that she’ll use it against him
“Crisp trepidation, I’ll try to shake this soon” Knowing hes scared and unsure and in fright but tries to ignore it bc he wants things to go well and trying to signal out the bad of the relationship bc he can’t fathom it
“We’ll be a fine line” knowing they won’t have the right amount of good or bad/happiness or sad, accepting it and having to live with it, not feeling content but also not feeling sad.
“We’ll be alright” reassuring, saying in a way they will find the right time and the right person, they will find contentment and happiness one day.
“Spreading you open, is the only way of knowing you”
There could be two meanings to this
1: pushing the person to the breaking point to open up bc he relies on vulnerability and trust in relationships.
2: Fixing problems with sex bc they don’t know how else to, only feeling close to her by having sex -
I think that « Fine Line » is a song about happy and sad moment in life, at the beginning the song sounds like a bit sad but at the end, the song sounds happier « We’ll be alright » its a ✨fine line✨
-
I think that this is about a strong relationship that even after the break up they were still alright and they don’t have to be together all the time. That’s their fine line connection between them both.

I actually think the first part of this song (before chorus: We'll be a fine line) it is about Simon Cowell
[You’ve got my devotion]
like Simon is somebody Harry looks up to
[But man, I can hate you sometimes]
but sometimes Harry can hate him because he split Harry and Louis
[I don’t want to fight you
And I don’t wanna sleep in the dirt]
I think the rest of the first part speaks for itself
And then I think the rest of this song is about Louis
[A test of my patience]
Harry doesn't know how long time he can handle in this situation with Louis (they cannot be together in a public)
[There’s things that we’ll never know]
[You sunshine, you temptress]
I think we all know who is sunshine.
[Crisp trepidation
I’ll try to shake this soon]
I think their situation isn't easy. And Harry just wanna coming out
[Spreading you open
Is the only way of knowing you]
Harry shows us something which pointing to his sexuality and it's the only way how knowing Louis.
[We'll be a fine line]
It just pointing how harry feel
[We'll be alright]
He saying Louis they'll be alright
It's just my opinion.

A while back, when the album first came out, I thought of this as a sad song. But lyrics like 'we'll be alright' made me think it was both happy and sad. *It's a fine line.*

i think this song is about life and how there is a fine line between happiness and sadness. as you can see, the beginning of the song is obviously sad and as the song progresses it gets happier and it says “we’ll be alright” which makes me feel during the darkness and light in life, we will end up ok.

"Put a price on emotion looking for something to buy you got my devotion and man I can hate you sometimes"
This could be Harry referencing Simon. Saying how he was young and wanted to be a star so he thought becoming one would make him happy. But he realizes he hates Simon sometimes due to management splitting up Louis and Harry.
"I don't want to fight you and I don't want to sleep in the dirt"
meaning he doesn't want to fight Simon and he doesn't want to be left in the "dirt". Saying if he fights against management he could lose his chance at becoming who he wants to be but he can't love, Louis.
"We'll get the drinks in so I'll get to thinking of her"
Going on from what I said before since Harry doesn't want to lose his chance of becoming a star/idol he becomes the "womanizer" of the group. So he will "drink" until he starts to think of women.
"We'll be a fine line"
Meaning Harry is fulfilling his dream but pushing away his loved one, Louis. So fine line relates to not awful not awesome, just in the middle. But this isn't what he really wants.
"Test of my patience"
Simon is playing with Harry's time and he is broken.
"There are things that we'll never know"
An explanation as to why Harry can't be with Louis.
Therefore I think this song is about how Harry had to deal with pushing away loved ones to maintain his public figure. Which relates to the fine line because it's just a line of being in the middle.

i believe it’s about being in a long term relationship and looking back through it all and recognizing that they will always be alright.
