Song Released: 2017
Carolina Lyrics
So far away but she says I remind her of home
Feeling oh so far from home
She never saw herself as a west coaster
Moved all the way cause her grandma told her
Towns better swim before you drown
She's.a...

#1 top rated interpretation:It literally has the girls name in it. “...moved all the way cause her grandma told her ‘Townes, you better swim before you drown’”. Obvi she had an impact on him so he wrote a song. I really hope she has a sibling called City or Village or something. If not, Townes, HMU for possible baby names when you are ready

#2 top rated interpretation:This could be about a girl who is invincible from the narrators point of view (Harry might not have meant it from his perspective). For example, 'There's not a drink that I think could sink her.' suggests this girl could pass through anything and that nothing can get her down. This song has a great vibe :)!

#3 top rated interpretation:so, where do i begin... carolina might be about cocaine. we shall ignore the first few lines of the song that are put there just to set a romantic narrative and are just giving us info about this girl to distract us.
"gets into parties without invitations", "how would you ever turn her down?"- pretty selfexplenatory.
"there's not a drink that i think could sink her"-cocaine will always be better, more expensive and more addicting than any drink ever will be.
after singing that she's all he thinks about he says "well i guess she just found out" and that could be him trying cocaine again.
"i met her once and wrote a song about her"- as we know cocaine can leave big trace on your mind, body and life so it maybe inspired him to write about it.
cocaine is often refered to as "girl" and people talk about cocaine using she and/or her; hence "she's (such) a good girl","she feels so good".
*i'm not trying to be disrespectfull to harry or anyone for that matter. it is a well known fact that he had his fair share of experimenting with drugs of all sorts, he was on shrooms while writing songs for fine line and i'm not trying to imply anything. this is my opinion and i found this interpretation very interesting so i wanted to share. tpwk and i apologize about any mistakes i don't speak fluent english* -
'she feels so good' come on hazza we all know what that means. also the girls name- townes was it? plus the girl obvi made a big impact on harry as he wrote a whole song abt her

Carolina is about a girl Harry saw briefly, but who made a big impression on him. Her names is Townes and is referenced in the song ‘Townes, better swim before you drown’. She was introduced to him by a mutual friend and they hit it off immediately- enough for him to write a song about her.

About meeting someone one time but their whole aura makes it hard for you to forget them. Something about them makes you constantly think about them.
Harry went on a blind date with a girl from Carolina who had moved to LA for school and if you listen or read the lyrics carefully, you will hear the name of the girl.
After meeting her once, he writes a song about her and how she seems like the deceivingly innocent type.

This song Harry Styles has wrote is about a girl named Townes Adair Jones originally from Greenwood, South Carolina, who moved to California to attend UCLA as a student. Now as for how they met, both Harry and Townes have mutual friends who apparently set them up on a blind date, which is what Harry was talking about when he said he “went out for a day” when he claims he had a mind block and couldn’t write songs.
