Wings of a Butterfly Lyrics

Heaven ablaze in our eyes
We're standing still in time
The blood on our hands is the wine
We offer a sacrifice

[Chorus]
Come on and show, them your love
Rip out the wings of a butterfly
For your soul, my love
Rip out the wings of a...

Jess is 100% correct. Butterfly's represent life. Ex. Larva to caterpillar, to cocoon, to Butterfly. Its representing the changes of life, and if you did actually rip the wings off a butterfly, it would be as if you are trying to evolve, and become immortal. It may not make sense to some people, but that's my interpretation.

In finnish folklore butterflies symbolize the departed souls or something. A lot of HIM's stuff is folky believe it or not

I'm going to agree with anonymous on this, it's about destroying something innocent and beautiful in order to prove his love.

He seems to be the deviant mind in this. He was behind her, encouraging her to desecrate a butterfly for her soul. This could be to save her soul or to preserve it. I do not think its for "eternal life" as some most eloquently put it. Death is only the seperation of the soul from the body and in no way does it speak of distending her life at all. In other words, she must willingly sacrafice the butterflys wings, that allow it to be free and to live, for her own soul. Its rather selfish when you consider it and Im not too grand at explainations but Im sure its understood.

You know I was about to type a long interpretation of this song but it seems that Jessifax26 has got the same idea I do. I just have one thing to and to her's. Ville (the lead singer of HIM for those of you who don't know) wrote this song based off of an urban legend about ripping out the wings of a butterfly.

The song is about the sacrifice of something beautiful to prove she loves him. 'Rip out the wings of a butterfly' is just a way of saying 'destroy something beautful', or something she really cares about.

I think it's about this girl (asuming the singer is straight!) who has to kill or get somebody out of her life before she can go on living. The song says that you must 'rip out the wings of a butterfly for your soal'. but it also says 'The blood on our hands is the wine. We offer as sacrifice' so they are apparantly working together to do this 'sacrifice' so mabey the girl had another love before him and she must get ride of the other before she can be with this guy. and in the song he also calls this girl his love so it must be that.^
