Ingrid Michaelson: The Chain Meaning
The Chain Lyrics
-
I think I agree but one question that bothers me is this: by saying there is a chain on the door, is she saying that she locking anyone else out, and that she will only open the door for him?
-
I think this song is about someone who left and if they come she'll open the door for them. I also agree that the "fly away on soapy heels" is a preference to Peter Pan.
-
I took away from the "Glide away on soapy heels" That it was a Peter Pan reference, because Wendy puts soap on Peter's heels so his shadow will slip on. I think by this that she meant that they left because of an immature reason, as is the plot of Peter Pan
