Dirt off Your Shoulders/Lying from You Lyrics

I ordered a frappuccino
Where's my fuckin frappuccino
Alright, let's do this

When I pretend everything is what I want it to be
I look exactly like what you always wanted to see
When I pretend, I can't forget about the criminal I am
Stealing...

This song is basically speaking of revealing who you truly are to someone (Could be a single person or a society). It's based on the idea of showing a certain set of people that you are what they don't accept. For example: "When I pretend, forget about the criminal I am, stealing second after second just cause I know I can". Mike is saying that he's a thief and that he has to hide this from the people that wouldn't accept that. And when he says "I can't pretend I'm who you want me to be I'm just lying my way from you" he means that he's not the good guy that the person would expect from him and he wasn't truly the man they thought he was and that by pretending, it was causing the real him to get farther in relationship with the persons he's talking to. Closer to the end of the song, The person reveals his secret life but the result of this went haywire and people begin to treat him differently and similar to an outcast, thus the part saying "This isn't what I wanted to be, I never thought that would I said would have you running from me like this". Although the band speaks from a criminals point of view, this song could be seen in many aspects from coming out the closet and saying that your gay in a city against homosexuals or telling your christian parents your an atheist. Being different is dangerous and being in a place where your different from anybody else, it definitely feels like "the very worst part" of it, is you.
