Linkin Park: One Step Closer Meaning
Song Released: 2000
One Step Closer Lyrics
I'm saying everything I've said before
All these words they make no sense
I find bliss in ignorance
Less I hear the less you'll say
But you'll find that out anyway
Just like before...
Everything you say to...

1TOP RATED
#1 top rated interpretation:Yes, this song is about having enough, but unlike most Linkin Park songs, this one's not got as general a meaning. This song was written out of frustration. LP were frustrated that writing the song Runaway was not going so well. Also, they've said that they were inspired by angry neighbours to write the bridge of Shut up, as they would rehearse in the rappers living room.

2TOP RATED
#2 top rated interpretation:This song is most definitely not about anyone's girlfriend. Chester wrote this song when he was frustrated becuase he couldnt write anything and he finally got so mad he threw a bowl of fruit at the wall and wrote this song, which turned out to be their first hit. So the the songs really about being mad because of a frustrating situation.

3TOP RATED
#3 top rated interpretation:To me, this song is about when you've just had enough. Like when someone just keeps on and on and it. For instance a bully, where all you want to do is ignore them "I found bliss in ignorance." The feeling they give you as if you're worthless, 'wish I could find a way to disappear'. Then when it continues the anger builds up inside you hence the one step closer.
Also when people just wont listen to what you're trying to tell them or say 'SHUT UP WHEN I'M TALKIN' TO YOU" -
Us for me this song is pretty much about inner dialogue and when it really pisses you off because it's just keep talking keep talking and you can't stop it it just talks to you all the time and you haven't got anyone quiet moment because you can't stop this avalanche of noises in your head is very difficult to deal with it so you just shouting at it to stop basically about depression to be honest something I went through I had constantly this dialogue I was even shouting at it to stop because I couldn't have one piece quiet moment in my head when I'm listening to this song this is exactly what I think this is what exactly what I experienced as well.

It's about having enough can't take it breakdown.

I find the meaning very easy to figure out. Yes, Chester wrote this song out of anger, but i can relate.
i can not take this anymore- i am sick of all the shit i have to go through in life.
all these thoughts, they make no sense- i think to myself that i just want to get away from life itself
everything you say to me takes me one step closer to the edge- i am about ready to smack someone shitless if they dont shut up.
im about to break- again, im about to smack somebody
i find the answers are so clear- it would be easy to just kill myself and be done with it. -
Its all about being hooked on meth and feeling like life is against you. Like everyone is against you. When you just can't face the truth but everyone else is determined to make you. You are sick of hearing it. Everything you say to me takes me one step closer to breaking. Thats why he finds bliss in ignorance.

To me this song is about pressure.Well..i really love this song cuz it reflects how i feel.My dad is always talking about how bad my life would be if i dont study hard. And if i work hard,i'll live in a world like heaven. So it's Heaven or Hell. And im really believing his words(and now im suffering from depression..:(..).The lyrics said"I'M ABOUT TO BREAK!"..I think it mean an emotional breakdown.Yea..the sad thing is Ive already "broke".And i think "less i hear the less you say" is what i should do when my dad was talking about my future.I shouldn't have listened to 'him.Hope i've made it clear.

The song is about teenagers. Or people who are mentaly sensitive like teenagers. You know the feeling every time your dad or mom keeps talking about how lazy/stupid/fat/ugly you are and brings you one step closer to the edge and goes insane.

I think this song is about being so pissed with everyone. When he says ‘everything you say to me takes me one step closer to the edge and I'm about to break I need a little room to breathe,’ I think the edge could be anything it could just be going away on a holiday for a while or it could be suicide, one little thing could tip you over and you break I know how he feels I was so pissed with everyone, my boyfriend, my family, my so-called friends, and for about two days straight all I did was listen to this song over and over again. I love this song it’s awesome.

This song is a great song. I love linkin park. when I hear this song I think of chester's past. He had a pretty bad life before lp and some people just went out there to make it worse to the point he was homeless when he join hybrid theory. This song is about him having enough of everything of his home life and just leaving it all.

This song is about the madness, the delirium that the girlfriend gives Chester. It's an angry song, especially:
'Shut up!
Shut up
Shut up when I'm talking to you!'
Absolutely love it.
