Marilyn Manson: Personal Jesus Meaning
Personal Jesus Lyrics
Your own personal Jesus
Someone to hear your prayers
Someone who cares
Your own personal Jesus
Someone to hear your prayers
Someone who's there
Feeling unknown
And you're all alone
Flesh and bone

lol At the arguments going on between people.
To find a proper interpretation for it, look up interviews with Depeche Mode. -
About being your own god, your own savior. believing in yourself. Weather or not Manson wrote(which I know he didnt) the lyrics are the same and the meaning is the same, Do your research Manson is not a satanist. He's just fucking crazy haha.
But the song is pretty a self-loving song, so you can survive on your own and take your own hand in your own faith. -

It's about call girls.
Well it's actually got a double meaning. On the one hand it's about the corruption of religion through our need for something physical - whether that be going to confession or calling up the tele-evangelists.
On the other hand there are continued but subtle sexual references. "Flesh and bone", "reach out and *touch* faith", "...someone to hear your prayers, someone who cares" belittles the seemingly unsatisfying religious faith in favour of having someone real to share desires and feelings with. This someone "cares", almost accerting the Church-leader or God does not care.
The idea of a call-girl may be emphasised by "Flesh and bone by the telephone", where at a stretch "telephone" could be used to imply "call". The heavy breating about two thirds into the song is obvious.
And finally, if you watch the Depeche Mode video the call girl theme is clear. -
I can't believe some of you fucking retards thought Personal Jesus was by Johnny Cash, Depeche Mode released it a full 13 Years earlier! It was written by Martin Gore, who by the way, is a fucking legend.
Oh and @ that guy talking about Jamelia, MM didn't write Tainted Love either that was soft cell, Jamelia just happens to favor 80s samples in her tracks. Gosh, take your head out of Manson's arse for a second and you might get a chance to see through all that bull shit you guys are talking.
Haaaaaa. -
Actually, the reason Marilyn Manson put up this song on his album is because of the 2004 presidential election. "Your own Personal Jesus" stands for the candidate one saw as his/her Saviour. He even stated this fact in one of his interviews.
-
No doubt this song rocks my socks but did yuo know there is a newer version of the song although the message is much much different the music from personal jesus is the same. The song is Beware the Dog by Jamelia she is singing about how man are dogs which to me is a buch of bull shit but hey you can't change feminests.Just thought you might want to no by the way she also seams to be out for anything that M.m has done cause she redid tainted love as well not sure on the lyrics but I knew this cause I was browsing stations one day and thought I herd tainted love but found her so just so yall know.

The gentleman that said it's about worshiping people instead of a false god sounds like he has the makings to be a satanist, but you should believe in yourself not other people.
-
I can tell you for a fact Depeche Mode used it before Mr Cash, peedleeedle is spot on when he says the song is blasphemous, "I will deliver you know I'm a forgiver / Reach out touch faith" it is a mockery of the way christians take comfort in their faith even when they are sinful.
I must point out Depeche mode could have had a different intent, but seeing as Depeche mode isn't the band in question, this is our interpretation.
We actually covered it on tour before Lest we forget was released.
Im pleased you like the song. -
I believe it's about Priscilla Presley's relationship with Elvis.
-
This song was written by eighties electronic band depeche mode after one of the songwriters read a book about elvis, and johnny cash covered it on his 2002 album full of covers like nin's "hurt" and then manson covered it for his 2004 "lest we forget" album.
The song is about relying on music as a form of escapism and looking up to the people that sing or write the music because they understand what you're going through. -
