Marina and the Diamonds: Miss Y Meaning
Miss Y Lyrics
Clicking every single finger waiting for the right time,
I feel like a substitute sitting pretty in my prime,
I'm about to play the game 'cause I'm running out of time
[CHORUS:]
Drop your...

I think it could be a fight between Electra Heart and this character called Miss Y. In the chorus it says "Drop your knees to the floor, hands to the sky, give a round of applause for the great Miss Y". This could be Electra mocking Miss Y in a way. It also says "The lights make me stronger" whereas in Electra Heart it says "Lights they blind me". This may mean Miss Y is the opposite of Electra but yet not the same as Marina. "I'm Miss Y am I here?" could mean it's pointless her arguing with Electra. "Oh Marina, we're so sorry but you didn't make the cut" could mean that Marina no longer exists. It's now just Miss Y and Electra Heart Battling over her mind. I could be wrong though as in maths, Y is a term for nothing. So Miss Y may be the part of both Marina and Electra that's driving them both insane. Electra is arguing with nothing. Marina is feeling almost suicidal because Miss Y (this negative thought that doesn't exist) is making her feel empty inside (could also be said as having NOTHING inside). Marina is so clever when it comes to this because her songs can have multiple meanings and interpretations. She also uses play on words a lot which could be why my second interpretation could make more sense.

I think this has to do with wanting to live her dreams and not being fulfilled with what she has even though she has worked hard for what she has. She is not satisfied with what she has and she can't wait until she gets to where she wants to be even though it feels out of her reach.
I also think this has something to do with the mystery of life. (Mr. Y= mystery, Ms. Y= Why am I here?) What is the point? What is the purpose of her life? Etc. -
Its about struggle, rejection and how everything that made her wait has made her stronger and how she appreciates all of that because the once "miss why am i here" is now much stronger and better.(give a round of applause for the great miss y)

I think it's about suicide really. She's 'miss why am i here?' Which means that she doesn't know why she is here. She had 'walked all night long in the dark' to the train station and the lights that make her stronger are the train's headlights. She's about to play the game means that she is going to be either pretty or dead, because nobody cares unless you're pretty or dead these days. She's running out of time because she knows she doesn't fit here and has to go/die. 'For the honour to be great' means that most people become famous after they've died, like Van Gogh or Anne Frank. 'Give a round of applause' means that she is going to be famous and everybody is going to talk about her for the first time ever.
Sorry about my baaaad english, i'm 13 and from somewhere else. This is just my opinion! -
I think its about how she fighted to get signed. How she went to different auditions and they thought she didnt was good enough. And she thought "what am i doing here"
(Sorry about my english)
