This song is about those who lost fathers, sons, and mothers and daughters in the military. it states that there is an "angle in our pocket", meaning the prayers that the person will live, or a pendant with a saint. "devil by our side" is the fact of what they are doing, killing others. "we ain't going nowhere", the bodies will be buried where they were killed. "'cause heroes never die" is about how the ones lost won't be forgotten. the heroes are those who died on the battlefields for the freedom of the people.
it could also be about being famous how you sing of good and bad things, but you won't be forgotten because your music will live on forever.
