Metric: Blindness Meaning
Blindness Lyrics
Tell the survivors help is on the way
I was a blindfold, never complained
All the survivors singing in the rain
I was the one with the world at my feet
Got us a battle, leave it up to...
-
Trap door and airplane refer to heaven and hell and not caring which you go to as long as you're no longer alive
-
I took this as a terminally ill patient that can't pull the plug because of the stipulations on euthanasia. The "help" is death and the "survivors" are anyone who cares about them that can't help and feel helpless. The perspective that death will ease every one's pain, both the patient and loved ones.
-
it can be from the perspective of a SURVIVOR of any variety of abuses, harm, trauma or injury from birth or during childhood.Everyone is born innocent, with the world at his/her feet then tragedy strikes and the victim may become either destroyed or fight to become a survivor. "a life I never chose"..."wanna leave"...childhood trauma often leads the survivor to a life of depression or a constant fight to hold back the pain of the past. Sometimes Creating a Fighter... a hero who fights to protect the innocent. "leave it up to me" could be a great indicator of a fighter for justice..for the innocent ..in whatever form the hero may take. A fictional character such as Spiderman, a vigilante killer, Sci-Fi hero trying to save the world ...
This would make an excellent melancholy theme song for a Superhero.. -
Reminds me of the show Lost. Send us a trap door, send us a plane. Anyone?

This song speaks to me about the survivors of suicide - the ones who are left behind to pick up the pieces. The ones who have so much weight on their shoulders they would contemplate suicide too, if they didn't have so many people counting on them. I think the interpretation depends on the listener's personal experience.
-
To me this song is about a woman who is feeling suicidal and wants to take her life. She feels that she didn't choose to be born, So why cant she just die? But suicide is obviously frowned upon and society always believes things get better so, she is not able to take her own life.
-
I think she's singing about her addiction. She's trying to find ways out of it but cant. *I was the one with the world at my feet* could be her prior, she was healthy and had the world ahead of her. *got us a battle, leave it up to me* is a common thing for addicts to say to those trying to help them get out of addiction (I can do this battle alone I dont need help). Most convincing lyric for me is *I wanna leave but the world wont let me go* meaning her addiction has such a hold on her that she cant get away even though she wants to be clean.
-
This song is about waiting for help yet the help came and their living a life that they didn't choose and as much as they want to "leave" (die??), the world still wants them here. I can relate to this song because I sometimes feel like that.
