Metric: Satellite Mind Meaning
Satellite Mind Lyrics
-
I heard she wrote this song about Heath Ledger right after he died.
-
Could not find much about this song except people saying it's about being famous. Don't think that's right. My take is it's like a 'fight club' split personality alter ego. She is singing about herself on both sides. I imagine that her true self is in a room in her own mind. She can hear what the 'starlit' is doing outside. She is a severly depressed person who is out partying and faking trying to cope or self medicate through sex and drugs. Her true personality is locked in her mind while the alter ego is in control. Her true self is sending out a signal like a satellite trying to get out. She can't control this alter ego her mind created and drifts off into a fog like dream state as it takes over. She can feel her true self most when she is alone but it's like a ghost or a memory. The last line says it 'when your voice became vibrations from the satellite mind it sounded like mine'. It's like in fight club and there is a change over or how he slides. At least that's how I see it. I hope the songwriter has a bit more depth than just making another song about being famous. Give her some credit.
