Motion City Soundtrack: Everything is Alright Meaning
Everything is Alright Lyrics
Yeah everything is alright.
Oh please tell me that you're alright,
Yeah everything is alright.
Give me a reason to end this discussion,
To break with tradition.
To fold and divide.
Cause I hate the ocean,...

#1 top rated interpretation:This is a song about a guy struggling with obsessive compulsive disorded. (I'm sick of the things I do when I'm nervous)He's currently mentally unstable, and therefor hates unpredictable situations, but he's better then he once was. In order to keep it together he needs to convince himself and everyone else that he's doing ok.

#2 top rated interpretation:Its about someone who is mentally ill in a hospital like the whole "tell me that you're alright,
yeah everything is alright.
Oh please tell me that you're alright,
yeah everything is alright."
is one of the nurses coming in to his room and checking on him.
And "give me a reason to end this discussion,
to break with tradition.
To fold and divide." he obviously has ocd and multiple personalities. He doesn't want to talk about it anymore but he also wants to stop feeling the way he is
"cause I hate the ocean, theme parks and airplanes,
talking with strangers, waiting in line..
I'm through with these pills that make me sit still."
he hates doing things that normal people do because he feels so out of place.. And the dr's give him pills to help him but he's sick of taking them.
"i'm sick of the things I do when I'm nervous
like cleaning the oven or checking my tires
or counting the number of tiles in the ceiling..
Head for the hills, the kitchen's on fire!" he has nervous habits and he hates them but he can't stop.
"I used to rely on self-medication,
i guess I still do that from time to time.
But I'm getting better at fighting the future,
"someday you'll be fine.."
yes, I'll be just fine."
he used to be a lot worse, and the dr's are reasurring him that he's getting better.. And so he tells himself yes I'll be just fine.
"give me a reason (I don't believe a word)
to end this discussion (of anything I've heard)
to break with tradition (they tell me that it's not so hard)
to fold and divide (it's not so hard)
so let's not get carried (away with everything)
away with the process (from here to in-between)
of elimination (the long goodbye)
i don't want to waste your time."
his multiple personalities are saying two different things. The one that you hear more clearly in the song...(the one not in parentheses) is the stronger one and the one he is saying out loud. The other voice you hear in the backround.. Is the one in his head and it's thinking about suicide..(the long goodbye) because its just tired of living like this. -
Well.. I'm no expert but I think the song is saying what is "okay" who is just perfectly fine? and what makes you alright, like everyone has messed up stuff in the contents of their mind.
That's what I get from it anyways. -
I think this song is portrayed from the view of someone with multiple personalities or some other metal disorder(just watch the music video) but it also seems kind of sweet to me... perhaps he is trying to overcome something (hence, talking to himself, mentioning taking pills), but he is worried about someone else.
I saw a tv show where a pregnant woman was possibly hurt, and she and her husband were in the ER; I thought of this song because the husband was going through drug with drawl and was freaking out about his wife. He obviously cared a lot about her, but because of his altered mental state, he was acting in a crazy sort of way.
The line in this song that sticks out to me the most is "I don't want to waste your time" and I think this might be talking about not wanting to burden anyone with his own issues, but he is trying to overcome them. -
Justin Pierre, the lead singer suffers from memory loss and obsessive compulsive disorder. He's also a recovering drug addict. This song is about all of his issues and asking himself if he's alright. He knows that he's going to be just fine.

First of all machs was way way off. And I felt the same as you all. But I thiking that when he says "tell me that your alright, Yeah everything is alright" Is him talking to himself in two personalities instead of it being a doctor.
Also earlier he says something about self medication I feel like he's realizing that he doesn't need the pills that make him still and coming to his senses. And telling himself that he isn't sick. -
I think it's closer to being checked into a drug rehab or constantly dealing with the addiction to drugs (note: the lead singer is a recovering druggie and alcoholic.)
-
I think the song is just about anyone not necessarily someone with a disorder. To me it sounds like he is just conversing with himself. Not in a crazy way.

This song has to be about a person with Obsesive Compulsive Disorder. I think it's about a guy who is sick of everything he has to do to make things better, to "fight the future". They are sick of everybody asking how they are doing, so they just say that everything is alright and maybe hope that by saying that everybody will get off their back!

This song is about a boy who has been through a lot and hates all of the things most people like to do, or what he liked to do when he was well and he's determined that everything will be alright.
