Muse: Thoughts of a Dying Atheist Meaning
Thoughts of a Dying Atheist Lyrics
trapped beneath my pillow
won't let me sleep
your memories
I know you're in this room
I'm sure I heard you sigh
floating in-between
where our worlds collide
It scares the hell out of me
when the end is all I can...

The dying atheist is thinking about what will happen to him when he dies. maybe there is a heaven or a hell and he has no idea where he will end up
-
Exactly what it says on the tin. Thoughts of a dying atheist. This athesit is dying but as they do they're scared because they now have to accept the view that them not believing in an afterlife of any kind means this really is the end!
Or it could be the exact opposite and they're not scared at all because they says 'scares the hell out of me' but them being an atheist don't believe in Hell. So really which ever you agree with.
May I add isn't an atheist who believes in no gods or religions and no afterlife not just heaven or hell? -

I believe this is umm about a dying atheist. I think he's reconsidering his atheist belief because he remembers someone he loves that died or something like that. And now he thinks there maybe something out there "scares the hell out of" him. Cuz he sinned. This is what I think, I could be wrong... -

When you die, everything stops. nothing means anything no more, why be scared when there will be no fear, no emotion at all, no thoughts? That's my opinion. the song feels more like "dying with nowhere to go". It feels as if the person who is dying doesn't really know what to think, and that's scary.

I'm Atheist and when I was little I'd think of nothingness and darkness, and I know a lot of children who do beleive in god would still be scared of death, but seriously, I'm surprised my parents didn't give me sedatives. :P. Now I'm not so worried about death and I figure: If there's an afterlife, not that I'm saying there isn't- I have a very open mind on this matter- I'll deal with it then, if not, well I won't have to worry about it will I? As for not even thinking 'Scares the hell out of me!', for me it's just a figure of speech. Isn't it the same for any other person, Atheist or otherwise?

guys... matt's an atheist. There is no way he would ever try to turn anyone to religion.
-
Well I think its just prob his own thoughts on how he feels when he thinks of death??
-
Right. Some athiests may be scared, but on balance, I believe most true athiests are just like, eh, well, I'm dying, but the end is something to look foward if you're dying, because your pain will go away. That is all.
Nobody wants to die, but I don't think an athiest would be that scared, no more than a regular person would be. -
It's exactly what it says on the tin
