Honey, This Mirror Isn't Big Enough for the Two of Us Lyrics
Counteracts the booze I'm drinking
And this vanity I'm breaking
Lets me live my life like this
And well, I find it hard to stay
With the words you say
Oh baby, let me in
Oh baby, let me in
Well I'll...

#1 top rated interpretation:Okay, since no-one wants to break this song down verse-for-verse, I guess I will.
The amount of pills I'm taking
Counteracts the booze I'm drinking,
And this vanity I'm breaking
Lets me live my life like this
This part is something that a lot of people in rock/punk/metal bands seem to think: I'm indestructable because I make music. So Gerard thinks alcohol and drugs won't affect him "lets me live my life like this"
And well I find it hard to stay
With the words you say.
Either a friend or romantic partner are intervening and Gerard doesn't like it/care, so he's thinking of cutting them out of his life.
Well I'll choose the life I've taken,
Never mind the friends I'm making,
He's decided that this is how he's supposed to be and that he doesn't care that the people he hangs around are a bad influence on his drug habits
And you can cry all you want to, I don't care how much
You'll invest yourself in me.
We're not working out.
At this point, the person who is trying to talk him out of it is visually upset and Gerard's blowing them off. In the case of that person being his girlfriend, he's breaking things off because she doesn't want him to continue usuing drugs.
And you can't touch my brother,
And you can't keep my friends,
The girl has now informed his friends and family of Gerard's addiction. He finds out it was her and tells her off; not to do it again
Never mind the times I've seen it.
He's seen other people get hurt and killed because of drugs but he doesn't care. He still thinks he's 'invincible'.
Well I hope I'm not mistaken
By the news I heard from waking.
And it's hard to say I'm shaken
By the choices that I make.
He's OD'd and passed out, when he wakes up he's told and he doesn't care. It's most likely not the first time it happened.
Well I'll choose this life I've taken,
Never mind the friends I'm making.
And I get a little shaken,
Because I live my life like this.
At this point, if you listen to the song, his voice gets rougher and more panicked, indicating the drugs are affecting his sanity. It's also in the lyrics: "And I get a little shaken because I live my life like this" I also think at this point the girlfriend has moved on, giving up on Gerard altogether.
And you can't keep my brother,
And you won't fuck my friends.
The girlfriend has resurfaced, now with his family on her side. It appears she's dating one of his friends/band mates "You won't fuck my friends"
Never again, never again.
(You can cry all you want to I don't care how much you'll invest yourself in me.)
Oh baby let me in,
I'm knocking let me in.
He's now outside her door, regretting his decision to not listen to her. He's hearing all the things he said to her in his head."(You can cry all you want to I don't care how much you'll invest yourself in me.)" And she's not listening because she moved on. -
Sucking dick for cocaine and the (definitely not misheard) lyric, "you can't fuck my frank".
-
Gerard once said at a concert that the song is about sucking d!ck for cocaine.
-
This song is about Gerard's struggle with coke, pills &booze. And about how people tried to help em but it wasn't working
-
"This song is about sucking dick for cocaine."- Gerard Way before a performance of Honey, This Mirror Isn't Big Enough
-
Yeah, this is about coke addiction (as most of you have said), but there seems to be some controversy about who is supposed to be doing the drugs - him or his girlfriend.
I'm pretty sure its him. The line:
"The amount of pills I'm taking
Counteracts the booze I'm drinking" makes it pretty certain its him.
"Well I'll choose the life I've taken
Never mind the friends I'm making" She wants him to stop, but he's going to continue to live the life he's chosen so far.
"I find it hard to stay
With the words you say" he finds it hard to stay with her when she's constantly trying to stop him from doing drugs (the words you say). I also think that the line "Oh baby let me in" is him trying to persuade her to let him get her into coke too. 'let me in', as in let him crack her and get her addicted as well.
"And you can cry all you want to" - she can plead for him to stop as much as she wants, it wont matter
"I don't care how much
You'll invest yourself in me" - she's obviously trying to help him out and investing a lot of time in trying to get him clean, but he doesn't care
"We're not working out" - pretty self explanatory - if she wont let him continue as he is then they're not working out.
However, i think that when the persuasion isnt working she tries to hurt him:
"And you can't keep my brother
And you won't fuck my friends" she's tried to get at those close to him (his brother mikey, his friends - possibly frank and ray, or just others) and he's saying that he'll never let her.
Anyway that's just an insight into my interpretation of the song -
I think this song is about drugs. Like, when you think its talking about a girl I believe its actually talking about the drugs. Sort of like personification. When he says "We're not working out" its the drugs he's talking about, like he wants to leave the drugs. And when it says ,"You can't touch my brother" I think its ,well, obviously Mikey since he was also in bad health, like depression and all maybe he meant he didn't want Mikey involved in drugs too.
I think.
I love MCR by the way(:
Just saying. -
Actually I heard it was about Gerards girlfriend who tried to cheat on him with Mikey.
-
Ok, so first of all here is some background information:
1) Gerard Way (frontman and lead vocals) WAS a drug addict and an alcaholic
Ok, so I have heard "mirror" in this song is refering to cocain. Apparently Gerard had a girlfriend who didn't want him to do drugs and this song is basicly telling her to get off his back.
"You can't touch my brother (Mikey), and you can't have my friends..."
This refers to the fact his girlfriend whent after his brother and his friends.
"You can cry all you want to I don't care how much..."
This means Gerards girlfriend was deeply destressed (to the point of tears) that he was basicly killing himself, but he does not care. -
Despite Way's explanations for the song re. being about a girlfriend/Mikey Way's girlfriend, I can't help but think that the "big fat whore" he references is, in fact, his opinion of his former drink & drugs self.
The song seems to be more about a personal civil war, there wasn't enough room for both old and new Gerard in the mirror anymore. -
Some of you are right and some wrong.
Gerard was on coke before revenge.
It just got worse during the making of it.
They said so in "Life on the murder scene" dvd/cd
And the video comes from the movie Odishon (audition).
Its a Japanese horror film that I recommend.
It's a love story. -
This song isn't about Gerard and his girl, it is about Mikey way's girlfriend coupled with Gerard's addiction to prescription drugs(and other drugs) and alcohol. The story centers around Gerard living his life the way he wants but when he discovers that his brother's girlfriend is doing drugs (most likely by sharing drugs with her as sharing cocaine is often referred to as sharing mirrors hence the song title)and cheating his brother and he threatens her to stop.
The line "you won't fuck my brother" doesn't mean to have sex with but in the to fuck with someone.
the song is a bit of a paradox as although Gerard is morally content with his own life and how he lives but as he sees what pain her life can cause his loved one he threatens her.
The hypocrisy of it is that he cannot see the pain his life is causing to his loved ones. -
This song ISN'T about Gerard and a girl. It is about a girl who was going out with Mikey way coupled with Gerard's addiction to prescription drugs and alcohol.the story is about Gerard seeing what a slut this girl is and warning her about what will happen if she continues to do this to his brother..."you can't fuck my brother" not in the sexually way but in the offensive way. The song is a bit of a paradox as Gerard tells the girl not to live her life this way but he lives his life anyway he wants... oh the hypocrisy... lol

This interpretation has been marked as poor. view anyway

This song is about Gerard's cocaine and anti-depressant addiction. His girlfriend tried to stop him by goin to his friends and family, then he broke up with her hence 'you can't fuck my brother, you can't keep my friends' and the title is meaning that cocaine comes before her. Mirrors are used to line cocaine up and snort it
