New Order: Touched By The Hand Of God Meaning
Touched By The Hand Of God Lyrics
I couldn't look at you
I guess you knew it but I never realized
That we were through
And now I'm down here all alone
With every feeling that I own
You can't take that away
And with every breath...

The first time I heard this song I was in between high school and college. After suffering what I thought was him extreme homesickness prior to leaving home for college I suffered nervous exhaustion injuring my freshman year in college. Struggling to recover emotionally, mentally and physically from here leaving home to a new environment I was listening to this song. Sadness and depression seem to permeate my every thought. As I listen to this song, I thought about how I was "touched" by the hand of God in the sense that God drew me down to my bare being. I'm sure that my point of view is subjective but made sense to me. The bottom line and being "touched by the hand of God" was that I was completely helpless and dependent on God which is probably my most accurate description of my existence. Only when we are totally desperate are we aware of this.
