Wasted Lyrics
Is it me or 'cos you came here?
Just accept that time was wrong
Oooh, strangely
I've been thinkin’ bout it lately
We never finished what we started
Now I'm fearful that it's gone

I think this song is about One Direction. Niall's always been the one to like the fact of the boys coming back together.
VERSE 1
[Darlin', are you always tryin' to blame me?
Is it me or 'cos you came here?] I think this is him asking if people think it's his fault.
[just accept that time was wrong] I think this means that he didn't think it was the right time for them to be together.[We never finished what we started
Now I'm fearful that it's gone] One Direction is still on their '18' month hiatus but it's not turned into an indefinite hiatus. 1D never finished what they started together and Niall worried that it's gone.
PRE-CHORUS
[Let's keep this open] I think he wants the boys to keep open-minded about being a band again despite what they went through. [There won't be any more hearts that are broken] referring to the fan's hearts that fell apart when they broke up.
CHORUS
[Wondering where the time has gone] Niall's wondering where the time in 1D's gone as he (and I) think their time together flew by. [I know it's hard to keep keeping on
Don't leave it wasted] He knows it'll be hard to be a band again but he doesn't want them to lose any hope.
VERSE 2
[Someday, it could be more than we intended
And we'll be happy that we waited] I think Niall's talking about the possibilities of them getting back together. He thinks that it could be better and bigger than what anyone would expect- it'll all pay off in the end. [And we both got what we wanted] I think he's referring back to the X Factor auditions. The five boys all auditions separately and now they broke up they all got what they came there for- a solo career. [But we would've happened all along] He thinks that 1D was always meant to happen and that 1D was always meant to end.
POST CHORUS
[Don't leave me wastin' by myself
Let's leave emotions on the shelf] I think he wants then not to forget what they went through together. He wants to be a band and wants to forget any emotions for it to be easier for them all.

I think that this song is clearly about One Direction and the boys. But this is just my opinion. I think that he is addressing the boys directly.
In Verse 1; He is reflecting on his time in One Direction. He knows that they never finished what they started (their life as a band together and their 18 month hiatus that turned into an indefinite hiatus). He is worried that their band and time together is gone.
[I've been thinkin’ bout it lately
We never finished what we started
Now I'm fearful that it's gone]
In the Pre-Chorus; He is asking them to hang on and be open minded about getting back together. Then he is saying that if they get back together there won't be anymore hearts broken, referring to the fans who were/are sad that they are no longer together.
[Let's keep this open
There won't be any more hearts that are broken
Hold on, hold on]
In the Chorus; He is asking them not to leave him all alone. Thinking about the time that flew by. He knows its hard to keep going but asking them not to forget and leave what they had behind.
[Don't leave me wastin' all alone
Wondering where the time has gone
I know it's hard to keep keeping on
Don’t leave it wasted]
In Verse 2; He is telling them that if they get back together it could be bigger than they thought and they'll be happy that waited and had the break when its all over.
[Someday, it could be more then we intended
And we’ll be happy that we waited
When it's all been said and done]
He is telling them that they changed them and shaped him to be the person that he is today. They all got what the wanted since they all auditioned as solo artists (on the xfactor) and became solo artist after One Direction. He knows that it is complicated but thinks that they always would've got together and would have always had to go on a break eventually.
[Oooh, and you have changed me
And we both got what we wanted
And looking back it’s complicated
But we would've happened all along]
In the Post-Chorus; He is asking them not to leave him all by himself and asking them to put any negative emotions or feelings about the band or management behind them and join him.
[Don't leave me wastin' by myself
Let's leave emotions on the shelf]
In the rest of the song he is asking them to not leave what they had behind.
