Nightwish: Wish I had an Angel Meaning
Wish I had an Angel Lyrics
I took a step outside an innocent heart
Prepare to hate me fall when I may
This night will hurt you like never before
Old loves they die hard
Old lies they die harder
I wish I had an angel
For one moment of love
I wish I...

#1 top rated interpretation:As a matter of fact the song refers to a myth in Scandinavian mythology. I read somewhere else that it is about a Valkyrie who desired a human but since she was immortal she could not be with him (thus the references to lust, virgin undone etc). Nevertheless she still wanted to be with him so when Odin found out he 'burnt her angel wings to dust' thus rendering her mortal so as to spend her life with the mortal man. I am not certain but I am pretty sure that is correct

To me... This song is about a man who thought hos girlfriend/wife was a perfect angel, something happened that made him think otherwise. Perhaps she had an affair.
After some time he still loves her "old loves they die hard" but he can't forget of the betrayal. "Old lies they die harder"
He wishes he had his angel back even for one night so he can feel her love once more. -

Soo, dear folks. I see that some of you found some high and mighty meaning between the lines, and some of you think that Tuomas just wanted to... you know... a virgin.
I think, I've read too many fanfictions, so I won't say much. I'm afraid that I would see just what I want to see. So I'll just tell you two things:
- Tarja was nicknamed 'Angel'
- She was married to Marcelo
Understand, what I mean? -

Yes, but the expression is blasphemous. Did they say in an interwiew what exacktly they meant and why did they choose these words for the song?
-
The song is an extraordinarily poetic way of expressing the author's desire to have sex with a virgin.
