Nightwish: Amaranth Meaning
Amaranth Lyrics
The doubting one by heart
Alone without himself
War between him and the day
Need someone to blame
In the end, little he can do alone
You believe but what you see
You receive but what you give
Caress the one, the...

Baptised with a perfect name
The doubting one by heart.
You believe but what you see...
The Doubting one in the Bible was Thomas.
So i guess this is another Nightwish song where Tuomas Holoipainen self references himself.
Alone without himself...
The meaning of Thomas is Twin so i guess some part of him is missing.
War between him and the day
Need someone to blame
In the end, little he can do alone...
Whatever the issue is he can't face the cold light of day metaphorically speaking so he hides in the Night which might be a reference to another song on this album, 'Whoever brings the night'
Caress the one, the hiding Amaranth
In a land of the day break...
Amaranth is a plant that grows a beautiful everlasting flower. So i guess the song is about over coming dark times and finding that thing that makes life meaningful. Not just anything but a thing of substance that will last. -

People are afraid of what they cannot understand. If you look hard enough you'll find the amaranth, the white flower of good in an odd or negative situation.

It is about the underdogs, symbolized by an archangel Gabriel.
Baptised with a perfect name = Gabriel, holy warrior, man of God, strength from God etc. Baptism was not done before christianity started, so this cannot refer to Lucifer, contrary to what other interpretations often assume.
Music video also shows a falling drop of angel blood which is caught by a boy (future underdog, hidden amaranth). This is also a symbol associated directly with Gabriel in Koran (The Clot). -
suppressed, implied, phonetic perfect. like this song very much ;-)
-
it is quite good, besides it is something they call aria (something as hildegarde or something?)
-
I feel like the meaning of this song represents fear of anything unknown or unfamiliar. And the tendency to destroy those things feared or misunderstood.
