Nightwish: Eva Meaning
Eva Lyrics
Snow keeps falling, silent dawn
A rose by any other name
Eva leaves her Swanbrook home
Kindest heart which always made
Me ashamed of my own
She walks alone but not without her name
Eva flies away
Dreams the world far...

1TOP RATED
#1 top rated interpretation:I honestly think this song is about a girl that has committed suicide due to bullying and the person singing is telling a story about Eva's life of suffering
Six thirty, winter morn
Snow keeps falling, silent dawn(the setting of her leaving for school in winter)
A rose by any other name(she's a normal girl)
Eva leaves her Swanbrook home(she's left for school)
Kindest heart which always made
Me ashamed of my own(Eva was a kind girl but yet people still picked on her for no reason and the speaker is ashamed that humans can drive someone to do this act)
She walks alone but not without her name(she thinks she's alone and only has her name to live with)
Eva flies away(maybe she committed suicide by jumping which would explain "Eva sails away" maybe she jumped off a bridge)
Dreams the world far away(she's in heaven now far away from the pain)
In this cruel children's game(bullying in school)
There's no friend to call her name(she had no one to help her and no one to turn to)
Eva sails away
Dreams the world far away
The good in her will be my sunflower field(they'll always remember her for how she was kind)
Mocked by man to depths of shame(bullied to the point where she felt there was no way out)
Little girl with life ahead(she ended her life at a young age, never knowing what may have become of her life)
For a memory of one kind word
She would stay among the beasts(for just one kind word she may have stayed alive amongst her tormenters)
Time for one more daring dream(her last day on earth)
Before her escape, edenbeam(before she dies)
We kill with her own loving heart(but the last day they bullied her too much and she couldn't take it anymore) -
Anyone think she may have killed her main tormenter and then had to run? Just a thought... :)

This song took on a different meaning for me when my daughter found out that the fetus she was carrying had died in her womb.
"6:30 winter morn; Snow keeps falling silent down;
A rose by any other name; Eva leaves her Swanbrook home" [refers to her geographical location and the quiet passing of the child in the mother's womb. The fetus has died and is preparing to move on from the safety of the mother's body]
"A kindest heart which always made; Me ashamed of my own" [refers to the guilt a parent feels when harm comes to an innocent child, even though it is out of their hands]
"She walks alone but not without her name" [refers to the tradition to memorialize the child by naming her, she is alone because she never becomes part of this world]
The chorus describes the process of her stillbirth, leaving the biological constraints of a medically sterile "cruel, children's game,"and her entering her role as angel. "There's no friend to call her name" because she doesn't experience childhood.
"The Good in her will be my sunflower field" [the child is named after a flower to serve as a visual reminder of her indelible presence]
"Mocked by man to depths of shame; Little girl with life ahead; For a memory of one kind word; She would stay among the beasts; Time for one more daring dream; Before her escape edenbeam; We kill with her own loving heart"
[refers to many symbolic connections between motherhood and the patriarchy, the politicization of women's bodies, and how men view women. The mother creates her own birth/death and grief experience, knowing that the child she is receiving is already gone, and picturing the child riding edenbeam to angelhood. The last line refers to the act of holding that child, the pain it causes, and challenges of moving ahead after such a horrible loss. -
I understand this song because I'm exactly like Eva. It's about a girl who's kind and caring but no sees her for it. She is always the odd one out and no one understands her. She is never acknowledged and has no one to turn to. She has no friends but wants them. All she wants is a world where nobody is hated. She imagines this world and it makes her sad that it will never exist. I feel a special connection with this song because it describes me perfectly.

The song is about a girl that is so kind and sweet but is ignored and no one likes her. It is about how she uses her imagination to keep herself happy and how she uses her imagination to make a world were she is not alone. When it says she flys away it is talking about her going to her world that she had created in her head.
