This is Gospel Lyrics

This is Gospel for the fallen ones
locked away in permanent slumber.
Assembling their philosophies from pieces of broken memories.

Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh.
This is the beat of my heart.
This is the beat of my heart.

Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh,...

I feel(this might be just me) that this song is about wanting to live, not just survive. In the video brandon is held down by doctors, they are trying to help him (maybe he has a terminal disease) but what he wants is to fully live those last moments not spend them locked up in a hospital.
Which is why he keeps struggling and trying to get away but even when he does they follow him. They try to forcefully help him (his family wants him to live) and he says that if they loved him they would let him go, that he would rather die peacefully after spending his last days in happiness instead of in an operation.
In the end, well he dies escaping into a bright white light (symbolizing the term "go towards the light")

I think the song is about him fighting for the relationship between him and his beloved. She must have broken his heart but he still wants her, he still loves her and always will. I think that he is saying he will never give up in them, that they will have to kill him to make him give up. Love is worth the fight.

It's really just a sad song, and interpretation of his feelings written on paper and put into music.

I think that the parts about "slumber" means that hes like in a coma and he's asking them to stop trying to keep him there but let him go and "turn the machines off" basically. The whole time in the video it shows that other ppl are trying to help him but he just wants to go and then he goes into the light. It's pr so mysterious because he wants fans to interpret it. It's art really.

I honestly think it's about being you and not what people think you are. As it starts off it says "This is gospel for the fallen ones left in permanent slumber." I think that means the ones who have been in silence about it and gave it."Assembling our philosiphys from pieces of broken memories." means they are trying to tell him to do what people want everyone to do based on past memories and what people have done to start trends or so forth. In the background it says " This is the beat of my heart" Meaning that it is his heart not theirs and it's saying that he's following his heart. " The gnashing teeth and criminal tongues conspire against the odds." Is people bullying and saying mean things to those who did follow their hearts. " But they haven't seen the best of us yet" They're going to turn things around and these people who bully them haven't met them and still make fun of them. " If you love me let me go" Means for them to just let him go. Let him live his life. "These words are knives and often leave scars." Means he is trying to explain how they hurt him and when they call him names. " The fear of falling apart" Is his fear what he's scared of. He doesn't want to be made fun of and bullied. " And truth be told I n ever was yours" Meant I'm not like you. You don't own me." This is gospel for the vagabonds,
    Never-do-wells and insufferable bastards
    Confessing their apostasies
Led away by imperfect impostors" People are confessing and being bullied and are led away by imposters people who are fake.
"Don't try and sleep through the end of the world and bury me alive, because I wont give up without a fight." Means don't try to ignore me and hide me into the crowd. He wont give up on himself without a fight. And back to the chorus which I explained some. The knives and scars part really lead me to belive this hope you all enjoy!

my mother and i see it as a way of looking through/trying to move past death. "gnashing teeth and criminal tongues" means that people are either trying to support him/give up (probably the latter). idk, but take a sec to listen to the song and think of it in this sense.

I believe it was mentioned somewhere else that this song is about battling addiction. It was written by Brendon Urie and Dallon Weekes.
The song has several meanings to me though, I can see several angles and aspects and interpretation's of what this song is about.

If you watch the music video of this song, it's not realistic anymore that it is about suicide. I rather think it's about the quite opposite, about the struggle to stay alive and live your life just the way you want it to be and not how other people want it.

"This is gospel for the vagabonds,
Ne'er do wells, and insufferable bastards
    Confessing their apostasies
    Lead away by imperfect impostors"

For the "impostors", what you do might seem wrong and unbearable, but you have to chose what you want and not them because it is YOUR life. I don't know if that's the intention of the song, but to me it makes sense somehow.

My interpretation of this song is a bit cliché, but I believe it is about how someone has "fallen in love" with a person who does not love them back.
The first line " this is gospel for the fallen ones" I believe means the ones who have fallen too deep into love. the next line, " locked away in permanent slumber" to me means they're stuck in the dream like state of love. they're are so stuck in this dream like fantasy that they can't escape it there for making it permanent. and "assembling their philosophies from pieces of broken memories" describes that they're are trying to pinpoint the others (the one who doesn't love them back)feelings by using past experiences they've had with relationships. when it says "this is the beast of my heart" I think he means that his heart is not beating for the other person. that they're are not as in love with that person. "the gnashing teeth and criminal tongues conspire against the odds" means that the people who are allying with the hopeless romantic (probably friends or family) know that it's going down hill for the two people so they are trying to figure out a way for him to fall in love with the hopeless romantic. " but they haven't seen the best of us yet" to me means that he is trying to figure out a way to prove to them that he is no longer interested. "if you love me let me go" means that if the hopeless romantic really did love him and didn't think of him as a possession, then she would let him leave her because he is obviously not happy there. she would want him to be happy rather then miserable. "cause these words are knives that often leave scars" means that he knows thee words will hurt them emotionally, but they need to be said. " the fear of falling apart" - means he won't be ok if he stays with her. he's not happy and he's afraid he will fall apart from the pressure all the misery is putting on him. "and truth be told I never was yours" means that he wasn't as serious about the relationship as her. that he didn't date her because he loved her, no he dated her to see if he loved her, and obviously the answer came up as he doesn't feel as strongly as she does. so he wasn't really hers ever. "this is gospel for the vagabonds" means that it' for the people who rift around, not really finding love. never stopping or being compatible with anyone they meet. " never do wells and insufferable bastards"- meaning the people who still can't find the right person. " confessing their apostasies" these people admitting their new doubts in love due to the fact they cannot find anyone that is right for them. "led away by imperfect impostors" these desperate people then are led to believe that they've found the right person by people who are only pretending to love them because they want something from them. these impostors would be obvious in other circumstances, but these hopeless romantics are so desperate for love hat they're willing to believe anything, or they know it is fake, but don't care. " don't try to sleep through the end of the world" means these people cannot hide away and pretend that everything is ok in their romances. "bury me alive" means you need to be willing to be buried in tragedies. "cause I won't give up without a fight" speaks for itself. and that's y interpretation.

I think this song (or at least the chorus) is about how people whose loved ones are going die and they try to keep them alive when the person who is dying is trying to get them to accept the fact that their time is coming to an end and it's time to let them go and let them die naturally instead of being forced to take all these different kinds of medicines and doing a ridiculous amount of procedures to keep them "alive" when they (the dying person) doesn't want it. It's like resuscitating (reviving) someone who has already agreed to/said that they don't want to be resuscitated. That's my opinion.

Basically this song is about suicide. In the beginning of the song, he says, "This is gospel for the fallen, locked away in permanent slumber." Means that this is words of wisdom or the truth for the people who have passed away from committing suicide. "Assembling their philosophies from pieces of broken memories." means they are creating a human belief about human life from mental damage. They often say that the loneliest people are the kindest. The saddest people smile the brightest. The most psychologically damaged are the wisest. Because they never want to see someone suffer. "The beat of my heart." Is when they say that this is how my heart feels. "The gnashing teeth and criminal tongues conspire against the odds." Refers to the bullies of society. What other people who weren't as mentally damaged set it up to. Or maybe as damaged but just refuse to be the nicest because of it. "They haven't seen the best of us yet." Means that we have our best. Because they sure as hell don't deserve it if they are the bullies responsible for the ones who committed suicide. "If you love me let me go." it is what it basically means. It for the loved ones or the closest to us. The ones who allow society to either use them or they just are oblvious to the fact of their loved one psychologically damaged. "Cause these knifes often leaves scars." Means that words leave a damaging effect. No matter how much one says that words can't hurt you. A part of society rules. Like what our parents told us:"Sticks and stones can break my bones but words can never hurt me." Well, we faced the reality that it can. "And truth be told I never was yours." We never belonged to society. We are saying to set us free from society norms. The norms and why society does certain things are the reason we want to commit suicide or already have. "The fear of falling apart." It is the greatest fear in society. But, some people fear it much greater than others. Which kinda allows society to walk all over us. "This is gospel for the vagabonds." The truth for the people who keep wandering. The ones who are lost perhaps. "Ne'er-do-wells and insufferable bastards." These people also follow along in this category. The people who can't bare it at all. "Confessing their apostaties." Is to mean their religious or basic principle. What their real truth for them is. "Led away by imperfect imposters." The people of the society who get the other people to believe that they are exactly the same but when in truth, they are lying. We follow them blindly."Don't try to sleep through the end of the world and bury me alive 'cause I won't give up without a fight." Tells us don't try to commit suicide and bury everyone else out. We fight to stay alive in society. That has what made us keep going and not doing it. Because we have the will to live. In a nutshell, don't follow what society always says. But, try to fight and stay alive. In the real truth, everyone has their own psychological problems. Even the ones who refuse to believe it. Committing suicide isn't a way out of society but, a way for our loved ones to mourn. It won't end the problems of society. The only way to end them is to keep on fighting. I honestly may have not put this in the way I was trying to put it. But, that is my best shot.

I honestly think this song is about suicide. "Broken memories" - I think that means he and remember the good parts anymore. "This is Gospel for the fallen ones, locked away in permanent slumber." - The ones who have already commited suicide, they are now at peace. "If you love me let me go, cause these words are knives and often leave scars, the fear of falling apart." - He wants to be let go to do what he wants, and people/society's hurtful words leave scars from self harm. The fear of crumbling is probably everyone's fear, and he is so afraid that he lets the words get to him. "Gnashing teeth and criminal tongues" refers to the bullies/society judging him. Then at the end he repeats, "The fear of falling apart" and then the heartbeat fades, meaning that he gave in too and commited suicide. I think that the music video did okay with showing the meaning, like it's not straight forward, but you have to look for it. I think when the doctors are holding him on the table that they are trying to fix him, but the problem is mental, not physical. They hold him back with ropes, and he breaks them, but in one scene where he says "Sleep through the end of the world and bury me alive, cause I won't give up without a fight" that he's in a coffin filling up with water, where he is thinking about drowning himself. Then he breaks out of the coffin and decides at that time he won't. This is one of my top songs because of how it could mean any of the things said here, but no one knows exactly what it means, except maybe Brendon Urie himself.

I think it about how this person is dying and they want to just die and for the people to let them go cause in the video the nurses are holding him back....

To me, this song is describing the pain and suffering that someone's thoughts can interpret with life and death. Since 'gospel' is an account on describing life, death, and also resurrection, some effect of happiness and despair must be implied, or something along those lines.
It also makes me think of how everyone has gone through tragedies in their life and that in order for humanity to exist, life and death must occur at some point in time to keep the cycle moving, because if we paused it no one would die and no one would be born and new generations would not come into place and time would basically stand still in a forever state.
Idk, P!ATD songs just get me thinking a lot /sigh/.
