Paramore: Pressure Meaning
Song Released: 2005
Pressure Lyrics
And if it was time well spent
Just don't let me fall asleep
Feeling empty again
Cause I fear I might break
and I fear I can't take it
Tonight I'll lie awake feeling empty
I can feel the pressure
It's...

#1 top rated interpretation:I say that maybe there is a lot going on in the life of the intended in this song, and maybe the pressure is just the weight of living period. I mean, has no one ever felt like they're being weighed down by life to the point where they wanted to stop living? I don't mean in a suicidal notion I just mean, like, you'd wonder if the pressure would ease up if maybe...there was no constricted pipe (life) for the pressure to run through and build up on. That's just my interpretation.

#2 top rated interpretation:"Tell me where our time went
And if it was time well spent
Just don't let me fall asleep
Feeling empty again"
This is about hayley(author) asking where her "time" went, meaning just about anything in her life. She's also asking if she did the right thing.she feels that she missed out on something.
"Cause I fear I might break
and I fear I can't take it
Tonight I'll lie awake feeling empty"
Here she is saying how she thinks she can't take being famous. once again she feels as if she missed something.
"I can feel the pressure
It's getting closer now
We're better off without you
I can feel the pressure
It's getting closer now
We're better off without you"
Here she is saying how she is under a lot of pressure and just keeps getting more and more put on her and that she would be better without it all.
"Now that I'm losing hope
And there's nothing else to show
For all of the days that we spent
Carried away from home"
She's saying how she's losing her hopes in becoming famous.
She's also saying how she's running out of things to show her fans. She's talking about being on tour and being so far away from her friends and family.
"Some things I'll never know
And I had to let them go
I'm sitting all alone feeling empty"
She's saying that there are things that she never got to experience in her life and that she never will get to experience them. She feels as if she's missing something in her life.
and then it just repeats stuff that I already interpreted. This may not be right but this is how I see it (= -

#3 top rated interpretation:i think this song is about who people are pressured to do so many things, and that someday, you will burst. It's saying "we're better off without you" meaning, if we didn't have it, then we wouldn't have the pressure
-
I think the song is from the point of view of teenagers who are peer pressured into becoming perfect. Some parts makes me think of weight, like 'feeling empty'. 'I can feel the pressure, it's getting closer now' seems to refer to feeling pressured into being what society thinks is beautiful. This may not be right, it us just what comes into my head when I hear the song and is probably not what Hayley meant, just my thoughts. :)

Okay. Imagine this interpretation, according to the music video.
I can feel the pressure, it's getting closer now, we're better off without you.
So imagine this: I can feel the pressure as in the male coming home late and the girl with her addiction feeling pressure from their parents or family. It's getting closer now. What's getting closer now? The feared phrase "we're better off without you", as in their parents finally getting fed up with them, to the point of, yes, kicking them out.
Now just from the point of a teenage mindframe. The mindframe the lead singer or any of the other band members would have been in during this time. -
she also calmis her drinks get spiked when shes out……. sorry love no such luck nobody wants to take you home that badly!!
-
I think the song is about......life and how you have to please everyone and not yourself, you have to make sure that everyone happiness and greed is granted bye giving them want they want (meaning fame), also losing your loved ones because they think whatever your doing is dragging you and your loved ones down. hense "pressure"

To me, this song is about Jeremy Davis (the bassist), who left the band when they were writing the songs to the "All We Know Is Falling" album. It's like the band is trying to tell Jeremy they're better off without him, but they still need him and the band feels empty. The pressure of losing him increases, and they try to finally say, "you're better off without me," as in he'll do just fine without them.
-
I think this is about Jeremy Davis leaving the band and Hayley contemplating on wether or not she should ask him to come back.
-
the song, for real, is about their member Hunter Lamb leaving. He left a note saying "There's so much going on...the pressure's getting closer now...you're better off without me." and to this day, they don't know where he is and have a very hard time finding him when they go back to Tennessee :l
-
If you look it up on wikipedia, it says that this song is about how much pressure the band was under after one of their members, Hunter Lamb left.
He left a note saying :
"There's so much going on...the pressure's getting closer now...You're better off without me"
Hence the lyrics -
it's about a person who is so tired of being told what to do. and then it's like they look at his life and wonders if it was worth it. then, he just gets fed up with it and leaves.
-
It's about us putting pressure on ourselves, sometimes we want things so bad, like our dreams that we keep worrying, what if I fail, what if I screw it up,
because through out the song you here her saying "we're better off, without you(pressure)" but if you listen till the end she says "we're better off, without me" -
I think it's about a relationship that is getting to be to pressured. They don't really wanna be with each other anymore. They would be better off without each other.
-
The video and song pretty much explains itself.
-
Sounds like your stressed out and eventually you just break ex. a very studious girl who does to many things and just goes insane {i dont mean insane insane just like you express yourself how you want to be }

I think this song is about a girl(haley) not spending time with her boyfriend(clearly shown in the video). The first verse is her asking her boyfriend(or questioning herself) what's going wrong in the relationship ("tell me where our time went, and if it was time well spent, just don't let me fall asleep, feeling empty again").The second verse may be that she now knows what's going wrong since they don't spend much time with each other. That they don't hang out a lot. ("now that I'm lossing hope, and there's nothing left to show, for all of the days that we spent, carried away from home") The hook ("somethings I'll never know and I have to let them go, I sitting all alone, feeling empty") might be her feeling that even though the main problem in their relationship is that they don't hang, she feel s that there's something else going too. But since she doesn't know what it is she just forgetting about it but it making her feel weird and empty inside. The chourus is just her saying she's starting to feel the pressures of a relationship and she feels better when she breaks up with him. The change in the last line of the chourus in the end is her just saying that your better off with out me just like I'm better off with out you

People who say this about them not wanting to be famous or wishing they could shake the pressure off from being famous are dead wrong. If you knew anything about Paramore, you would know they were like Z-list celebrities when they wrote this song. So, no. As previously mentioned, almost all the songs from "All We Know" were about Jeremy. It's about the whole band missing him be apart of it and thinking how maybe they did something wrong to make him leave. ("Tell me where our time went and if it was time well spent. Just don't let me fall asleep feeling empty again.") In the chorus, they're starting to feel so much pressure to do good without him but then they realize, bitterly, that maybe they're better off without him anyways. The second verse, it's about them dealing with Jeremy leaving with the wondering why he left and thinking it sucks without him. ("Somethings I'll never know and I had to let them go, but I'm sitting all alone feeling empty.") After getting all they're bitter feelings out towards the split, they realize that Jeremy is probably better off without them either.
