Paramore: Decode Meaning
Song Released: 2008
Decode Lyrics
When youre clouding up my mind
I cant win your losing fight
All the time
Nor could I ever own what's mine
When youre always taking sides
But you wont take away my pride
No not this time
Not this time
How...

#1 top rated interpretation:Sure this song was made for the Movie but Its not anything really about that. Its about a Relationship that has fallen apart. How did we get here? I used to know you so well. She does not even know the person she used to love anymore. She is trying to hold things together and he Does not have a clue of what he is doing to her.

#2 top rated interpretation:I want to be true...
Bella doesn't know who, or what, Edward is
i think that it's all about her finding out who he is - I think the bit where it goes 'but you think that I can't see what kinda man that you are - if your a man at all...' is all her figuring out who he is ---
do you see what we've done
we're gonna make such fools of ourselves - this just sums up their relationship
the whole song sums up Twilight - from Bella and Edward clouding up each other's minds - Edward burning for Bella's blood - the truth hiding in Edward's, or/and Bella's, eyes
it's all there hehe -

#3 top rated interpretation:I hate Twilight but really love this song so I'll try to do this in a non-Twilght way.
How can I decide what's right
When youre clouding up my mind
I cant win your losing fight
All the time
(They are feeling pressured because of this relationship and know they can't always help the other person)
Nor could I ever own what's mine
When you're always taking sides
But you wont take away my pride
No not this time
Not this time
(They always seem to be giving something up for someone else but won't give up their pride)
How did we get here
When I used to know you so well
How did we get here
Well I think I know
(How did they relationship end so bad? They thought they loved each other but there was to much difference between them)
The truth is hiding in your eyes
And it's hanging on your tongue
Just boiling in my blood
But you think that I cant see
(They both know it's ending but don't want to admit it)
What kind of man that you are
If you're a man at all
Well I will figure this one out
On my own
(Is he going to fix it? Will he stand up for both of them?)
I'm screaming I love you so on my own
But my thoughts you can't decode
(The girl really loves him but the guy doesn't realize it)
Do you see what we've done
We're gonna make such fools of ourselves
Do you see what we've done
We're gonna make such fools of ourselves
(It's destroying them but they're to foolish to let it go)
I think I know
I think I know
There is something I see in you
It might kill me I want it to be true
(Even if it kills them they will be together) -
I agree it can be about a relationship it can be about one person believing the other person to be someone they're not; saying "i think i know" throughout the whole song because they're figuring it out little by little that person is made up in their head "well, I'll figure this one out on my own" and in the end of the song figures out why the relationship fell apart "There is something i see in you it might kill me, but i want it to be true"

Whoever said this song wasn't in Twilight was wrong... This song is in the credits when the movie finished. Hayley is a fan of the books and Decode sounds like it was Edward and Bella's relationship from the first movie to the second.

So this song originally got me interested in Paramore and now i totally love them.
i had heard that the song wasn't written for Twiligt originally so i did some digging and found some answers on Yahoo Answers, one person posted this from an interview with Hayley about the film-
"Twilight is the first series of books I've ever read. I didn't get into the Harry Potter series even though I love the movies. Twilight really caught my attention and held it. I'm really excited to see the book adapted to film and excited that our band gets to be a part of the phenomenon. I chose the title "Decode" because the song is about the building tension, awkwardness, anger and confusion between Bella and Edward. Bella's is the only mind Edward can't read and I feel like that's a big part of the first book and one of the obstacles for them to overcome. It's one added tension that makes the story even better." (from Hayley)
But i had thought that if the song hadn't been written for Twilight it may have been written as a result of Josh and Hayley's break up. They broke up around the time of the riot album i think (not sure you may want to double check that)and some of the lyrics would fit in with what one of them were feeling, such as 'how did we get here, when i used to know you so well' because Josh & Zac were the first Paramore members that Hayley met when she moved to Franklin so they became quite close. Also 'i'm screaming i love you so' one of them may be hurting slightly due to the breakup (possibly Hayley) i read online somewhere that Josh broke it off because Hayley didn't want to go public, which i find weird because didn't they admit it in interviews? (again you may want to double check that).
So yeah that's my interpetation (slightly crappy) but i hope that helped to do with the twilight part of the song. =) x -
I think it suits new moon alot better.
Like when she sings, "how can i decide what's right when ur clouding up my mind?" this is when bella constantly has visions of edward. when bella wonders why edward left her clumsy ass: "How did we get here? I used 2 knw you so well" why did edward leave, they had a good thing going on.
"I think i know" she blames herself.
When edward returns after the misunderstanding hailey sings, "Do you see what we've done? We're gonna make fools of ourselves"
she takes him back and 4gives him: "there is something i see in you. It might kill me, i want it to be true" she realizes loving him may be dangerous but she sees something in him and believes their relationship is true.※ -
This interpretation has been marked as poor. view anyway

this song was not in twilght. another paramore song was playing in the dressing room. listen closley when you watch it. but this song WAS written for twilght. but people mistake the song in the dressing room for decode and it is not...

I agree with whoever said this. It's all about Twilight. Bella and Edwards realtionship and how they feel. I think it changes back in forth between Edward and Bellas POVS on their feelings.
I want to be true...

This song was written for Twilight.
Basically, if you read "Twilight" or have watched the movie, you'll understand the song. -
Its based of the wildly poupular Twilight saga. It's about how Edward can't read her mind so he can't decode her thoughts. She loves him but he can't guess what's going on in her head.
