Pink: Who Knew Meaning

Album cover for Who Knew album cover

Song Released: 2006

Who Knew Lyrics

You took my hand
You showed me how
You promised me
You'd be around
Uh huh
That's right
I took your words
And I believed
In everything
You said to me
Yeah huh
That's right
If someone said three years from now
You'd be long gone
I'd...

The song is about losing someone you love. Through drugs, death or any other way you can think of. Pink says that her songs don't necessarily have an intended meaning, but if you can take something from it and make it your own then that's great. I certainly have.

OK, I understand the break-up idea, but you can't just reject the lyrics that don't fit your own idea, you have to look at the whole picture. She says things like "the last year I'll charish" and "you visit me in my sleep", now yes it is ture that people can say those things about someone who has broken up with them, but has anyone else here listened to pinks other songs??? LOOK AT THE WRITERS STYLE!!! she writes about breaking up with guys, not the other way around, and in the unlikely event that she wrote about breaking up with some one, pink would say f*** you , not I miss you. You say things like that when someone dies. how about "I wish I could touch you again"? this isn't even taking into considerations, what Pink has to say on the matter, cause its not like SHE WROTE THE SONG or anything like that. you all seem like reasonably smart people, SO LOOK AT THE WHOLE PICTURE!

    Actually...

Pink SAID in an article in London, that this was about a friend of hers who overdosed when he was 14. So, clearly, yeah the video is good. It's a good place to begin interpretation. He wasn't her boyfriend, but he was a good friend she said.

you're all talking crap with the drug thing. Get a life and stop watching MTV. This could be any relationship breakdown - you never know whether it'll work out, and in this case Pink was wrong, it didn't.

Ok, this is for all of you..you kind of are all right. Except for the fact that this song is about someone very dear to pink who OD...but we can all relate to it in one way or another because..well unfortunatly who doesn't know what it feels like to lose someone close to you?

Oh my, okay the song is about this girl who goes out with this guy and he promises her that they'll always be together, which is like a typical teenage romance or whatever, then they break up and she's saying she misses him and at first everyone was doubting they're relationship because they're so young and that and she's saying she misses him and she thought they'd always be in eachothers lives then when they break up, he was completely out of her life and the songs about her missing him and how she wishes that they were together. Videos almost never show what the songs about. Seriously, wow

I think its all to do with the drug thing, I never really thought about the inner message in this song but the drug story seems to fit, considering the lyrics.

This whole drug thing came up because of the video to the song. But a video doesn´t necessarily reflect what the song is about.

This song is about a girl with a "close friend" with a drug problem. People tried to tell her that he only cares about drugs, but she refused to believe that. She wanted to see the good in him, but after she realizes that he has a serious prob. She smartness up. She finds him overdosed and does the right thing. Calls 911 and in the end he hates her for it.

This is about a girl who falls in love with a guy who has a drug problem. She doesn't accept/ is in denial about the seriousness of his drug problem "if someone told me three years from now, you'd be long gone, i'd stand up and punch them out. 'cause they're all wrong." she believes he will straighten out eventually, but he doesn't. He either overdoses or gets sent away to rehab or jail.

This song is about a girl who got let down by her boyfriend. He promised her he's be around and when people doubted their relationship she always stood up for him until she realized that the relationship was dwindling. She would have never thought he would do this to her and when its finally over she says who knew? She misses him and wishes it didn't have to be this way but it is.
