Rihanna: We Found Love Meaning
Song Released: 2011
We Found Love Lyrics
Yellow diamonds in the light
And we're standing side by side
As your shadow crosses mine
What it takes to come alive
It's the way I’m feeling I just can't deny
But I've gotta let it go
We found love in a hopeless place
We...

I find all of this fascinating. I knew nothing about the singer or her life or that of the writer (and producer) of the song Calvin Harris. But like anything I take from it my own meaning. It didn't talk to me about a bad relationship as much as a passionate one - one of yellow: happiness and joy, that through all the great light of the world it still shinned bright. The the pains and despair (our shadows) we each feel over powers us and yet we fight to come alive in this love. That we were both in bad places - hopeless places - and we fought to come alive. That all the pain and doubt over love, yellow: cowardice and deceit, have to let go of to love. That we have to go through an open door, leave that old life behind, choose love, choose the person we need more then the past full of pain. That we need to take the feeling in our heart and think it through - make sense of it - embrace love not run from it.
It began for me with the narration at the start: you are so hurt, you're screaming and no one can hear you. You find this person that means so much to you and you're ashamed - because you've always had to be strong and with this new person you are weak, you can't resist and you've made them so much a part of your work that you feel like nothing without them, because you now share one heart. In your life you feel helpless and weak like no one gets you, like you've lost all hope and no one can save you. And in this world of pain you found love anyway - some one who maybe gave you hope and happiness and joy and in your fight to leave behind the pain of the world in which you found them you lost them - and now you look at the world and figure you'd take the bad back just to have that good - that person whom you love, your yellow diamond, rare and beautiful, confusing and bright, and full of happiness and joy.
Ok so I'm way off from the interpretations on this site. I was surprised to read them, and they all focus on Rihanna as if she wrote it about herself when in fact she did not write it at all. That does not mean the interpretations are wrong. I don't really know - but I like my interpretation - that out of hopelessness we can find hope, we can find love, and we can leave the one world behind for the other, that somehow we can hold onto the part of that awful world that was good without having to take back all that bad stuff with it.
Faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love. -
This song connects to me bc it's exactly how I feel about my ex. No one said we should be together or that it would work but it did somehow (for a while). We were such opposites of each other that we could go from loving to hating each other in a second. We put each other through hell bc I don't think either of us was prepared for that kind of love. It's like a drug: you know it's no good for you and you'll feel like shit later, but it feels SO good when you're high that you don't care and youd do anything to feel it again. I still care about him and I prob always will LA

It's all about cheese.
Rihanna saw some tasty looking cheese in an ugly supermarket (the supermarket being the hopless place). She loves this cheese so, so much but you see, it's just gone out of date; But she just loves this cheese so she wants to keep it. But she knows she shouldn't because it reeks so bad. -
They have found love in a hopeless place and love is being a drug even though it can be bad you want that bad to get the good.
-
I'd go with heroin, c'mon, yellow diamonds? Heartbeat on my mind... Sounds like they're really getting high... That should explain, why it is a hopeless place and why they're aren't good for each other.
-
"yellow diamonds in the light and we're standing side by side as your shadow crosses mine"... i think as well as the meaning of their love etc. she was refering to the two cranes in belfast that built the titanic that she shows in her video, as they are both yellow, stand beside each other and their shadows cross each other.

In this song she is saying that her and chris brown found love in a hopless place meaning that they love each other but the love was no good they started off good but it soon turned out to be bad she is saying that the love they have for each other want work out but they have found love in a hopless place...

My interpretation....We Found Love is an amazing story I myself have been through. The point is that they love each other, they really do, but their love is bad for them. It's hard for Rihanna to say goodbye because of this. The drugs, the alchohol, the sex was all just a part of them. It seems to me the guy began to get a little abusive and tried to force her to have sex and take drugs, just my thoughts.

Yellow diamonds in the light- how much attention they bring to a judgemental world."and were standing side by side" Everyone knows they are no good for eachother but they have a temporary unconditional love for one another that shines. Hence what it takes to come alive she has an undeniable feeling that she can't control. But its something she has to be free of. basically she has to choose between love and life.

There are many ways to interrupt this song. In my opinion, due to the actual lack of lyrics to the song, I believe that she didn't fall in love with a man, but more drugs. Obviously a global act such a Rihanna can't have drugs associated with her name so they used love for a man as a scapegoat. E.g. ''Turn away cause I need you more
Feel the heartbeat in my mind'' Drugs are addictive, and can cause withdrawal symptoms such as throbbing headaches.
Another e.g. ''What it takes to come alive'' caffeine brings you ''alive'' or even cocaine.
Obviously this is my opinion. Its is interesting, very strange lyrics and a stranger video. -
Their hopeless place is 'drugs & alcohol' their relationship was built on all the bad stuff, that they got carried away and finally enough was enough. In the music video it shows the pills, blunts, and ect. Eventually they hit rock bottom.

Okay here goes nothing. Dudley(the boy) symbolizes a drug in the beginning everything is good the effects of him make her happy. After that, they fall in love and when you love someone so much its almost as if youre addicted to the peraon. Once again he symbolizes a drug and once you take drugs you cant get enough of it and she's showing he addictive he is. The building falls down shows their love coming to an end. She comes out the car but comes back because he is the drug(very addicting) she realizes that she cant keep him and make the desicion to leave him. Hope i helped :)

Doesn't anyone notice their drug abuse? Obviously addiction is the hopeless place she so speaks of.

To me yellow diamonds means the pills they take in the video..
