Secondhand Serenade: Goodbye Meaning
Goodbye Lyrics
Its not enough to say im sorry
Its not enough to say im sorry
Maybe im to blame, or maybe we're the same
But either way I cant breathe
Either way I cant breathe
All I had to say is goodbye
We're...

#1 top rated interpretation:The song seems to be about a relationship falling apart, or maybe one that had already fallen apart. It seems that his girlfriend has been keeping things from him, "So all these, words that you never told me", things he'd rather know, and he is confused whether she's to blame, or whether he holds some responsibility for "letting it pass by". The fact he didn't know a lot of things about this girl shows that the trust in the relationship broke down: "And everything about you
Seemed to be a lie / A guiltless twisted lie / That made me learn to hate you," and he started to resent her, and himself for letting these things slip by. This could show that, because of the lack of trust, and the things he found out about her he made assumptions and accused her of things that were not necessarily true.
He appears to be the one apologising, which could further suggest there was a confrontation; he was frustrated at her for keeping things from him-maybe an affair-and he lost his temper and said things he couldn't take back and it just further severed their relationship. So all that was left to say is goodbye, and that, he wishes she'd tell him he was wrong-maybe hoping that what he thought about her was wrong so he could try to repair the damage and 'take his pain away'.
At least, that's what I thought. :-) -
My interpretation of Goodbye is that they didn't work and they had to break it off. With the lie part, he feels as if she has being lying/ keeping things from him. Although it hurts, it's for the best. I can relate to this song in every way :'(

I love Secondhand Serenade, they're the bests :D
I think this song is about a guy who cheeted on his girlfriend and now he's apologizing for what he have done. Between this, he realizes that he still loves her and he's ashamed of what he have done. Altough, she can't forgive him and all they have to say is goodbye to each other.
