Dressed In Black Lyrics

I had given up I didn’t know who to trust
So I designed a shell Kept me from heaven and hell
And I had hit a low
Was all I let myself know
Yeah I had locked my heart
I was imprisoned by dark

You found me dressed in black Hiding...

I think this song is about overcoming early childhood relational trauma through someone who loves you in a healthy way. There is something very primordial in this song.

This song isn’t about being found by a person. It was about being discovering music and how it elevated her beyond her sadness and sorrow, and how it validated all her tears and pain. It found her when she had given up and it saved her. It gave her the ability to express her struggles and to turn them into works of art. It was about her learning the power of her voice when she thought her life was worthless.

Finding the light in darkness, the light which draws her away from her dark past and helped her create a new future, breaking the walls that kept her in place.
Going further the song can be interpreted as finding the supernatural (God) who found her and brought her out , some may say a lover but I believe there is a limit to what a lover can do to get her away from her past. The song talks about someone who helped her recreate her life when she thought all was lost "life had broken my heart, my spirit" but in the line " That you do for the wounded, what they couldn't seem to, you set them free " shows that the love that she saw was not shown to only her, others were also freed of darkness and drawn into the light.

It talks about someone special/ lover who helped her overcome her own demons, depression, anxiety and suicidal thoughts... He pulled her out when she thought she had no hope and was lost in the dark. He saw how broken she was and helped her

As with any good songwriter, sia has managed to compose a song that covers many facets of love and kindness. Perhaps the meaning to her is not the same as it is to you. But as the great lyricist that she is, I feel she would be happy to know the song reached others in a profound and meaningful way that helps us each as individuals.

Bottom line it crosses the ability for true heartfelt redemption from and where it was needed.

Sia has said this song is about her boyfriend who died in a car crash. She is singing about how her boyfriend at that time lifted her up and saved her life when she was in a dark place.

It's about her sponsor crossing her path and working the steps. Braking down walls and being loved back to life.

What I think is that it is in her religious belief that God helped her...he helped her recover...just like in her song Footprints
I believe that God did help her and she doing really well now
    So yeah God bless her

This interpretation has been marked as poor. view anyway

It's about being in sobriety. I believe it's about finding a sponsor to help you through recovery.
