When I saw him in concert he said he wrote this for a girl, to impress her, and aparently it worked because that girl married him, and then he brought his wife out onstage and sang this song to her. It was beautiful.

I think this about someone who wants someone else so bad and can't really understand why she doesn't want him. He doesn't feel like they've finished their story so he can't really get over her, but she's left him probably with a "maybe" and so he's waiting.. "why do you look when you've alreeady found it. what did you find that would leave walking by?" he doesn't understand what she has.. That is so much better. He just really wants her to care and want him.
"I could stay here all day but that's not how you feel."
"what makes it so easy for you to be walking by? what did I do that you can't seem to want me?"
