The 1975: Somebody Else Meaning
Song Released: 2016
Somebody Else Lyrics
And at first I thought it was a lie
I took all my things that make sounds
The rest I can do without
I don't want your body
But I hate to think about you with somebody else
Our love has gone cold
You're...

#1 top rated interpretation:This song has been a personal favorite for several years. My interpretation is that for some reason, there relationship had to end. He still loves the girl and it really hurts him to see her moving on to "somebody else" because he used to be that person for her. The song expresses his hurt and his love for her. He doesn't want her for her body, he truly misses her as not only a lover, but as a best friend as well.

#2 top rated interpretation:I believe this song is about someone who broke up with their s/o after feelings fade. The person doesn’t want to get back with the other, but seeing them move on still hurts, because they promised forever. Overall this song is about the pain of having someone get over you, which in turn would make you feel irrelevant.
This is just my view .... -

#3 top rated interpretation:I believe that this is a song about a guy breaking up with his girl but now that the girl found someone else he is jealous and want to get back with her. He is regretting his past decisions and doesnt want her to move on. He then tries to get back with her.... (hopefully)

i guess this song's about when you really have moved on from someone but they find someone else and you get the feelings. you yourself don't want to be with them, but you don't want other people to be with them either. it's like... remain lonely

To me it feels like the first time Matty found out that his then-girlfriend was cheating on him.
"at first it thought it was a lie/" would be the first thought in his head if the r/s was good on the surface.
then he moved out with the bare essentials, his music things, leaving everything else behind possibly because they will end up reminding him of them/her.
He then goes on to understand why during some dates she's just on her phone, etc.
idk man

Sometimes in relationships one partner wants more of the sex and the body than the other does. I think this song is about how they don’t only want their body but everything about them that the s/o does not see. Yet they can’t think about their body being with someone else’s. It’s kinda confusing to comprehend but in conclusion, they don’t what the relationship to only be about sex but the s/o does.

This interpretation has been marked as poor. view anyway

My take is that the flame has fizzled in a once burning relationship. Got complacent and lost that spark. He doesn’t want to be with his exlover but the thought of them with another person is still difficult to bare. Pretty deep. I think we’ve all been there.

The "Get someone you love. Get someone you need" is the part of him that wishes her well and The "Fuck that get money, I can't give you my soul cuz we're never alone" Is saying just stay with me cuz I have money even though I cannot give you much more.
-
Maybe for English speaking people this part "fuck that get money, I can't give you my love cause we're never alone" makes sense, but for me not. Could someone explain me the meaning? This is the only part that ruins the song for me cause I don't get it. Otherwise the song is super relatable and beautiful. Thanks in advance

i think this song is about friends w/ benefits and one falls in love,he/she knows they’re nothing but he/she is jealous and is debating between breaking it or keeping it.
-
I used to listen religiously to this song when my opposite sex best friend began dating someone. All of his attention and conversation was directed at this girl he fell in love with, and I couldn't comprehend why he needed a girl other than me. He started to talk to me less because he was either texting her or hanging out with her and I became the afterthought. It isn't that I felt a sexual attraction to him, I just felt like we had been soulmates before she came along, and then he switched from me to her.

This interpretation has been marked as poor. view anyway

Sorry maybe the whole "picturing your body with somebody else" is the repulsion he needs to stop thinking about the jealousy ordeal. idk just a thought....?
-
I think this is about a gay guy that has a very good girl(friend) and he is jealous but not sexually of course but maybe he feels resentful now that the whole hangout dynamic is not the same now that she is in a relationship. The whole reference to money is like if he is very successful financially, (you go girl!, get that money!) in case it doesn't work out long term of course haha

This song is about the alien, Klendethu, coming down prodding the artist's anus on a regular basis. The singer comes to love Klendethu's visits, but feels betrayed when he learns that bastard cheating E.T. has been diddling other dudes butts as well. In his mind, he can't get the image of Klen-dizzle with other men and his grief ultimately leads to acceptance. The artist took his things that make sound (his mouth, anus, etc.) and did without the rest to move on and live the rest of his life focusing on making money to buy cocaine and strippers to put the memory of Klenethu in the rearview mirror. This all happened in the future year 1975, thousands of years ago in the present.

I feel like this song is about someone who has left their boyfriend/girlfriend because they didn't feel the same way or didn't feel like things were working. They no longer feel like they have that passion for that person hence "i dont want your body" but the fact that the other person has now got someone else it is crushing to think about, and maybe start having doubts about the fact the ended the relationship as emotions start to come back. But thats just my interpretation!

This song is about finding out your ex dating someone new and your heart broken by at and by the music video it's basically saying that you should learn to love yourself before you starting loving somebody else
