somewhere between a doubtful state and 100% positive about their relationship. he says it best when he sings "everything short of i love." their relationship is not yet at the point where they are able to express their true feelings for one another.

To me, the first verse is referencing the Berlin Wall. The Wall has to do with the singer's relationship with a girl whom he was close with but they didn't reach the point to say "I love you" (Cause we have spoken everything Everything short of I love you). And now theyre at a stand still, not sure where to go next or if they should just stay where they are. Well, at least for the time being.

i am pretty sure that this song is talking about WWII and the berlin wall 'separating east and west' and that its over and a girl who he loved before it was put up and they were trapped from each other, but that is all i have payed attention to.
