The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus: Atrophy Meaning
Atrophy Lyrics
'cause if you do, then you would be telling a lie but
I warned you
what could happen if you should decide
to live your life from the 9 to 5
and I mourn you
for the detail that is left...

#1 top rated interpretation:Your life has meaning and you live the way you want to, don't let others tell you how to live or think. You've been told what to do so many times, that you're like a robot and you're forgetting how to find answers within your self. "They've sold you everything you need to fix you up..." the word sold is sort of like presenting ideas that supposedly will fix you up. But it still doesn't help you. You're so into what people think and what they tell you, that when you realize yourself being uncomfortable, you don't know why. Atrophy means weakening in some ability. Break the walls of your weakness; it will help you. Take back your own existence.

So, I may be totally wrong, but this is the way I see it...
Well, atrophy means you don't care anymore, and I think when it says "they've sold you everything you need to fix you up and you feel good now but you can't wake up" it's definitely talking about some type of drugs. "I warned you
what could happen if you should decide to live your life from the 9 to 5" reminds me of a corporate job, so I wonder if it means that she took a job she was miserable with. (Not that I know how that ties in with the rest of the song... :)) "for the detail that is left unsaid is a reminder of the time you bled" the detail that is left unsaid is referring to drugs again, and the reminder of the time she bled migh be that she has cut herself in the past and used drugs to kill the pain. The person singing is begging the druggie to "return to days when you knew you still felt alive" or basically quit drugs because it is taking over your life. The "building atrophy" is the building of thier reliance on drugs and not caring about anything else. -
I think it is about someone talking about a friend who has gone down the wrong path. In my mind, I see someone who was depressed and found a group of 'friends' who led him/her to cutting, and the singer wants him/her to realize that she/he is spiraling down and wants them to return to how they were when they were happy.
