I think in a sense the song is about rising up to be more than what other people might think you're capable of, but also it's about standing up against people who are always pushing you down and making you feel crap about yourself.

I think this song is about hitting rock bottom. When some people (sometimes I fit into this category) hit rock bottom, they feel more alive. There's nothing to lose and everything to gain. Kind of Fight Club-ish, I guess? Whenever I hear this song I think about the times when I have fallen and how that is often when I'm the most productive. And though it's always the times when I'm pushing people away, it's because I'm trying to figure out who I want to be, and I just need a little independence until I've thought through everything.

This song is about suicide. I don't know why most people don't see it that way. As the song progresses, he slowly describes the way you feel as you're falling down from wherever you're falling from. "When I'm there, at the edge, in this moment I feel it, I know" is a perfect example of how you feel before you fall.
