3 Doors Down: Pages Meaning
Pages Lyrics
He spills his heart on a page and
He watches words flow away then
His feelings lie on the page alone
There waiting
For someone who cares to read them
To open their eyes to see them
To see if they can make his thoughts...

This is about a writer ripping out his soul and putting it on display.
People interpret the words however they want, discovering themselves and making sense of the world and their place in it and all the crazy emotions they can't otherwise explain. They see the tattered shreds the writer puts out there for them, and they devour it gladly as he keeps putting it out there, giving them more as they demand it and letting the writing become his life.
The song calls their attention to how damaging the writing can be, telling them to stop thinking about themselves for a second, to "forget [their] pain and watch [him] fall apart".
And by using his experience to create, he tethers himself to his past so that he can't move on and figure out what he wants, let alone go after it; he's missing out on a life he doesn't even know about because he is so consumed. It's like he's stuffed himself into a box of mirrors and everything he throws at the walls reflects back at him, amplified, and then that's reflected and amplified, over and over again. He thinks that spilling "his heart on a page" will purge him, but it does the opposite, sealing the box tighter as he is forced to confront these emotions in order to write them down.
