When You're Young Lyrics

So far away from knowing where I am going
I am trying hard to find out who I am
They all see that I don't know what I am doing
I say they don't hardly understand

Why can't they remember
What I will never forget
How these dreams come...

I think this song is about a young person who has such high spirits and aspirations watches life fall apart before their eyes. 'why cant they remember what I'll never forget how these dreams can come undone when you're young.'

This song is clearly about modern society.

"You give what you give 'cause they make you" could be referring to a number of things. The school system is mandatory even if you don't want to be there.

"They want you to be what they make you" could be referring to how some parents force kids into career paths that don't suit them and force them to abandon their dreams because "that'll never happen."

Then "It's already over and done, when your young."
