It's a good song, I think it's about the beautiful things we trade for real fufulment. The real happeness is not in killing but giving, and people have lost touch with what is good and meaningful. Actions people have never even felt or even tried. We've traded our souls for cars ,houses, luxuries and beautiful things in a vain attempt to satisfy a need ,a hollowness that can't be quenched with things. We can identify only if we suffer if were hungry, then comes understanding.

Guys this is an anti God/ Religion song like Hurricane.
It basically saying that growing up with religion is a beautiful lie and that people should let it go. It is very upsetting to me that this band has many anti God messages in there music because I really like their style of Music but not their message... P.S. in the video near the end when he is screaming lie it flashes a cross. -
I think it mean the person was lied that he was loved, but it was a lie because the other person doesn't want to hurt his feeling. But eventually the person found out that he was lied to and was tricked to keep on believing

i've always interpreted it as how hes pretending everythings okay when really hes searching for something more. the way he lies to himself and everyone else that its okay, a beautiful lie because it is what he wants, its beautiful to believe in, but deep down he knows that its not the truth and it is in fact a lie. i think the song is his confession that he is living a lie and knows it, and its something he wants to change.

Like every song different people take different meanings it. My personal view is that it is about realising that something in your life or in society isn't right and we have been living a lie and believeing that lie and then deciding that we want finally break out of that lie ad put the past behind us.

Unbekannte : Beautiful lie... it speaks for itself. i always listen to it when i'm hurt by someone's lies and it's always the same. i think this song pass to everything about lying. we often prefer to believe into such 'beautiful lies' cuz it's better to live with a thought that a person which is important for us tells us the truth. deep inside we know (s)he's lying but we kinda 'agree' to be hurt than to lose this person, even though (s)he often doesn't see it.

yup, when we're hurt, lying & crying in bed, we always think 'gotta change it, end with it' but in fact we usually never change cuz we don't have that much strength to do this. and ofc we have a hope it'll be better...
but we can never be sure what is right and that's why we're stuck in such situation.
btw, sometimes we want something to happen but WHEN it happens we're shocked etc. we don't wanna believe in this, cuz it seems impossible and too beautiful to be true - cuz we WANTED that and we don't want things we can have just like that. we think 'no no no... this can't be possible' but deep inside we start to believe in it. then the problems start - if it comes out it's a lie, we're mad at ourselves that we believed in it...

For all of those idiots out there it's about the polar ice caps melting, about how the media is feeding us lies about this will blow over and the earth goes through phases, its al gore's inconvenient truth all over again. That's why jared wanted to film where? Antarctica. but they wouldn't let him so they filmed it in greenland, jared almost died making the video, he slipped and almost fell off the glacier, and they all could have died from frostbite. Then they sent him the wrong editing thing, so he spent his own money to fix it, and all of the money from that video went to stopping global warming, so all of you talking about this anorexic bull shit, shut up, this song actually has an important meaning. and if you don't believe me go to abeautifullie.org

ok my story: a couple of years ago i started to think about suicide. i put on a mask to hide my real feeelings about life. i was funny...on the facade.laughed all the time. but there where signs that showed what i felt that time. nobody saw them.because they wanted to life the lie..it was easier for em that way -
I agree with the person who called you fools, the song is supposed to personl and interpreted by you.
it would be sad if songs were about specific things, because then we couldn't hold them so close.
and by the way, if you want to believe it's about the arctic circle (probably because the vid shows it), that's your choice. but im telling you, its up to you to decide what it means for You.
