This obviously is her first relationship. Eventually she realizes she wants more. It's not that her partner failed it's just every relationship has an end. Or think of it like clothing. Eventually you out grow it and you want something new. When she say "Please wear the face, the one where you smile. Because you lighten up my heart when I start to cry" she is saying he did everything right and made her feel safe.
He wants her to stay though (like any boyfriend) and she is on the verge of staying but she knows she needs to move forward.
