   Not ALL songs are about drugs, BUT... stereotypically people use a mirror when they do cocaine. In fact they do "lines". When you have lines on a mirror and look into the mirror, you appear to have lines on your face. Then as you snort the lines, the lines go away or "get clearer". If you listen, you can hear him snort after he says this.
   The remainder of the song can definitely support this conspiracy as well. "The past is gone" etc.

   Steven wrote this song when he was seventeen. I think he wrote this while thinking about life his future and everyone expectations of what his should be. Lot of reflecttion, lot of fear of the future and what it holds in store. This can be heard through the haunting music in it.

   When I listen to the song I think he is trying to say that getting old is part of life, don't get old and not have lived life....to live life till you die..     This song does have undertones of the singer's former drug abuse. It's about how he comes to realize that all this time has passed while he was drowning himself in drugs and booze i.e. "the past is gone, it went by like dusk to dawn" he knows that he messed up and blames himself i.e. "everybody's got their dues in life to pay" "dream on" is basically saying that you have to move on with your life, despite what you may have done and make the most of whatever time you have left.
