Love Like Winter Lyrics

Warn your warmth to turn away,
Here it's December,
Everyday. [small girlish echo:] I like that

Press your lips to the sculptures,
And surely you'll stay. [distant:] love like winter

For of sugar and ice,
I am made. I am made

It's in...

okay my first interpretation here,so cut me some slack,as a die had afi fan and depair faction member I frequently listen to afi,so any ways heres my guess, when the song first starts off you hear the clicking of I'm assuming heals on some type of hard floor, and to me just because my mother worked in a hospital most of the time I lived with her, thats what it sounded like, heels on the floor of a hospital, next with the line "warn your warmth to turn away, here its december, every day"december is generally associated with death,or the end,in a metaphoric sense any way,so where is one place that crosses your mind where there is death every day? hospital any one, next in the chorus the "its in the blood" any one hear of malignant cancer, its in the blood, with "I met my love before I was born,"love is sometimes regarded as a life force,so is blood, now as for the "he bit my lip and drank my war from years before" I don't know about bitin the lip maybe its a darker way of saying he took my blood, but as for drank my war from years before, any disease is like a war so who knows, the only other things I can think of are the girl who exhales vanilla lace, and who was dreamnt yesterday, perhaps a nurse?or perhaps I'm wrong on all of this which it wouldnt surprise me because my own interpritation varies with each session of listening but I do know that this was my initial reaction upon first listening

This song is obviously about Davey's obsession with the Beatles. "Love Like Winter", Winter=white, the white album! By "here it's december every day", he means "everyday is the good day to celebrate how good the White album is. By "it's in the blood" he means that his parents liked the Beatles too, so it's "in the blood", thus "he met his love before he was born". He also says "por siempre" (spanish for "I love the Beatles")

This interpretation has been marked as poor. view anyway

I agree with most of the posts.

*The cold and harsh reality of love,
*You're one love is set out for you,
*He has lost his one love,
*This one love made him feel so amazing "she bit my lip and drank my war from years before", she made him forget about all of the bad things in his past.
*Now that she has left him, there is nothing but the harsh and cold of winter everyday.
*Now that he has no one all he feels is hopelessness (hence the symbolism of the girl in the video)

I just grouped most of the other posts and added a few ideas of my own. These are just my ideas, AFI's lyrics do not have one fixed theme, so you can think of the lyrics as YOU see fit.

The winter is generally cold. In the winter you wish for warmth. You search for warmth. If this love is like winter it's cold, but it wants warmth. Maybe it's clinging to any wartmth it can find. Who knows for sure? That's just my take.

I think this song is just saying that love isn't what movies and the media actually portray it to be, it can be much more painful hence the 'winter'.
Movies say its all good and everything and its nice and lovey dovey, sure this is the case sometimes but there's also the harsh bits like fighting and all that just like in winter there's heaps of dull moments.

not sure if I'm right or not its just what I think

I agree - love is cold and harsh.

What's up with the "I met my love before I was born" thing?
