I believe The Trick is about being a compulsive liar. As said, "The truth is that I'm screwed." This is said to tell the listener that they haven't told the truth for so long and it's good to have it out. At the start, they say lies, and then at the end. they he realizes what lying does to you. This is why he says that he's screwed.
