Avenged Sevenfold: Almost Easy Meaning
Song Released: 2007
Almost Easy Lyrics
Every single time I'm asked to compromise
'Cause I'm afraid and stuck in my ways
And that's the way it stays
So how long did I expect love to outweigh ignorance?
By that look on your face I may have forced the scale to...
-
I have to admit that I liked this song better before I read the lyrics. The song itself rocks, but now that I know that he is talking to his mother.... well I am just disappointed... But A7X STILL ROCKS!!!
-
OK this is a great song by A7X so ill do my best not to mutilate it.
-I see it as a song from the devil's point of view, all of it is an apology to human beings in a hopes at getting them to side with him.
"I feel insane every single time I'm asked to compromise"
-the devil feels that he has bargained so many times with people for their souls, he has reached the point of insanity from all of the deals he has to strike with mortals
‘Cause I'm afraid and stuck in my ways and that’s the way it stays
-everyone is afraid of change, even the devil. after being this way for so long, why should he change for people?
"So how long did I expect love to outweigh ignorance?
By that look on your face I may have forced the scale to tip"
-the devil shines a light on how people may be "loved" but those people are kept in the dark and that 'by the look on their faces' he can see that they would rather know what is going on around them instead of being loved. So he tells us that he "may have forced the scale to tip" meaning that he intervened in some way, shape, or form to make it possible for them to have knowledge. (since these guys are pretty heavy on the bible for ideas, I would assume that they have the devil making a reference to how he tricked Eve into eating fruit from the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil)
"I'm not insane, I'm not insane
I'm not insane, I’m not... not insane"
-the devil is trying to convince humans, and himself that his actions are justified and that he's not crazy
"(Mother)
Come back to me it's almost easy
(Said it all)
Come back again it's almost easy"
-the chorus is the human race, speaking to themselves, realizing that their mother warned them about how the devil will tempt people to fall to him. while they think this over, the devil is telling them, "come back to me, it's almost easy"
"Shame pulses through my heart from the things I've done to you. It's hard to face but the fact remains that this is nothing new"
-the devil claims to be ashamed of what he does to the human race by causing havoc in their everyday lives, and he acknowledges that it's not easy, but it isn't anything new.
"I left you bound and tied with suicidal memories
Selfish beneath the skin but deep inside I'm not insane"
-the devil made life miserable so it left people to have the thought of killing themselves in order to rejoin him. and he admits that it is selfish of him to do so, but he assures people that his idea is not crazy.
"I'm not insane, I'm not insane
I'm not insane, I’m not... not insane"
-reassurance that he's not insane
"(Mother)
Come back to me it's almost easy
(Said it all)
Come back again it's almost easy
(You'll have learned your lesson)
Come back to me it's almost easy
(But first you'll fall)
Come back again it's almost easy"
-people see how their mother told them that if they sin to be with the devil they will learn their lesson about how it is wrong to sin, but by then it is far too late to save them, and so they must fall
(guitar solo)
"Now that I've lost you it kills me to say
(Hurts to say)
I've tried to hold on as you've slowly slipped away
I'm losing the fight, I've treated you so wrong now let me make it right.
(Make it alright)"
-the devil has lost his grip on the human race and he knows that they are slowly slipping away from him, now that he is losing the fight for their souls, he offers to make everything up for all the pain and suffering that he's caused
I'm not insane, I'm not insane
(Ha ha ha ha ha)
I'm not insane, I’m not... not insane
-the devil says again, he's not crazy, and he even laughs at the thought that he might be insane.
"(Mother)
Come back to me it's almost easy
(Said it all)
Come back again it's almost easy
(You'll have learned your lesson)
Come back to me it's almost easy
(But still you'll fall)
Come back again it's almost easy"
-the devil ends by telling the human race once more that it's "almost easy" to come back to him, since the human race is still remembering what their mother said, it leaves the song on an open thread. The devil leaves the choice up to the person themselves and the song closes.
-I hope I touched up on a few of some areas of uncertainty in the meaning of the lyrics. However, this is merely my interpretation of the song. I could be completely wrong about the whole thing, but that's why artists leave it to us to devise a meaning of the song to our own personal views. A7X 4VR -
If you read the lines that are in between "Come back to me, its almost easy" together it says "Mother said it all. You'll learn your lesson but first you fall." I think it is about either the devil drawing people into sin or (for those who are agnostic or atheist) a screwed up relationship. Duplicate meaning maybe? I choose the screwed up relationship.

This song has changed my life. It is my anthem.
Adding on to whom ever wrote this.
The irony is the titular quote, 'Almost Easy'. Nothing is 'almost' easy; it's either easy, or hard.
Nothing in life is EVER Almost Easy. It is either EASY or HARD. Its up to you what you want it to be?
I'm sure a lot of people can relate to this. I for one I have gone though life making things harder then they ever should have been. A goal is what you make of it and how hard you really want it.
Almost Easy to me is something deep inside you stopping you from making the real clear cut right decision. I fear losing a loved one one day and not being able to share things that I need to get off my chest with them. You don't know how they will react but deep down you know your not insane and they will understand. True apology never goes unnoticed. Sometimes it takes time, but if it is real and from the bottom of ones heart there is no doubt you will be forgiven.
I like really the Devil compassion and how sinning can be so easy but at the same time deep down you know how wrong it is. There is always a force pulling you down and sometime we fall to it.
The real kicker is on the Avenged DVD that came with the CD Shadows talks about the meaning - one being asking for forgiveness and accepting it but deep down not ever being able to let go of whatever it was. I think the hardest person to forgive in life is ones self. To just let things go and live in the now is one of and if not the hardest things to do. If you make it a goal, look at it and want to overcome. It will soon be looked as easy.
Nothing is Almost Easy it is how bad you want it. -
Know the songs been out for awhile, but thought I might just say what I thought it was anyways.
The song itself could be interpreted as a bad relation with his mother or girlfriend...but when I watch the video it tells a completely different story
In the video, the band is playing underground surrounded by fire. (hell?) and on the surface, people begin to crowd the hole that leads to the bottom and then jump down it. This would seem like people are slowly screwing up their lives and paying the price....going to hell.
Now the lyrics match with the video as well. I see the lyrics as the devil speaking to the people to "come back to me its almost easy" meaning that sinning is easy and the devil wants you to fall for it all.
"Shame pulses through my heart from the things I've done to you It's hard to face, but the fact remains that this is nothing new" could be taken as the devil admitting what he is doing is wrong but that he is used to it and its nothing new.
"Now that I've lost you it kills me to say I tried to hold on as you slowly slipped away I'm losing the fight. I treated you so wrong, now let me make it right." this could be taken two different directions. one is that the devil is losing his grip on people and trying a different approach to getting victims but the problem with this theory is that in the video people are still dropping in the hole. So my second guess was that it could be god trying to keep a hold on people and that he is losing the fight cause more people are falling into sin.
The I'm not insane part is the devil just trying to convince you that he has everything under control and its ok to fall for sin.
so I mean, good song. but I find it kinda weird that the band (to me) would portray themselves as the devil in the video and that most of their songs have delt with things that are sinful and deals with the devil and such. I mean, I myself am not a christian but kinda weirds me out. -
I believe this is a song about him pushing his mom to the edge to killing herself. Tied and gaged with SUICIDAL MEMORIES
my opinion. -
About his mother I don't know. Doesn't sound like that to me. I have listen to this song quite a few times with a open mind. I clearly understand the words with out any guidance of lyrics written online.
It sounds like a very similar situation I went through. I believe the song was written about a girl (Not his mother). He treats a girl wrong. He knows this deep inside. We know this because of most of the beginning. He also likes to push buttons "Tipping the scale".
So he leaves her and realizes he made a huge mistake and that he loves her more than he thought. Now that there not together he realizes it. But he finds out something worse. Something towards her cheating. In the background of the song towards the end "it's still your fault" is stated.
So he treats her wrong. She cheated or something to that. He tries to fix things but she has moved on and not willing. It's almost always easy to go back to the way things are. He knows it's over but he still holds hope... -
The Rev wrote this and it's about his relationship with his family. He was kicked out of his house at 16 or something. But it would be almost easy for him to forgive his mother
-
I think that this song is about how someone had a fucked up relationship....he kept hurting her, and never changed. which in turn made her feel like shit. I think he claims that he's not really a bad person, he just never learned from his mistakes and never will.
"I left you bound and tied with suicidal memories
selfish beneath the skin but deep inside I'm not insane..."
and I think that when he says "almost easy" he means that he knows how bad she still wants him, but is hesitant about it because she doesn't want to get hurt again....
idk that's just my opinion. -
It's about him and his mother. They didn't have a good relationship and he is trying to make it right!
-
I love A7X so I had to comment,
i think this song is about how a guy got into a fight with his girlfriend and she pulled away after this and became suicidal. The whole "I'm not insane" is like I know I hurt you and pushed you away but I'm not crazy for wanting you back. also the boyfriend wants to make everything better between him and his girl. -
If you listen to the song and imagine that shadows is the devil singing it makes a lot of sense. It's like the devil saying, you know, living a life of sin is so easy, and wen you die you'll be in hell (come back to me, its almost easy) in the video, a7x is preforming in a gaping pit full of fire which is hell.
