Bat Country Lyrics

"He who makes a beast out of himself, gets rid of the pain of being a man"

Caught here in a fiery blaze, won't lose my will to stay.
I tri-i-i-ied to drive all through the night,
the heat stroke ridden weather, the barren empty sights.
No...

Ok, this song is flat-out, undeniably a tribute to the late, great Hunter S. Thompson. The song is based off "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas." Even the music video has clips from the movie. Even the booklet in the CD credits Hunter S. Thompson with the opening line, "He who makes a beast out of himself, gets rid of the pain of being a man." Yes, this quote illustrates the fact of using copious amounts of drugs and alcohol to forget emotional pain, but it also means that one who turns himself into a beast, shunning society and rejecting human emotion, living at will only on need and instinct, will no longer feel the emotional pains of man as brought on by society, a.k.a. rejection, disgust, loneliness, isolation, social fear. It pretty much means that if you cannot strive above the regular human ideals, then drop below them, into the realm of the beast.

Also, whomever said that this song was about vampires, get a life. True vampires don't exist. There are those who become sexually aroused by the sight, feel, and taste of blood, also know as hemophiliacs, but they do not show any physical side effects. It is simply a fetish. There is also a rare blood disease that requires regular blood transfusions, a.k.a. new blood, but ingesting the blood by drinking it destroys the purpose. Pull your head out of your ass, quit playing "Vampire: The Masquerade" with your sad, little friends, and enter the real world for once.

I just thought I might mention the #1 rated submission's inaccuracy, hemophiliacs are people whose blood does not properly clot, meaning they could bleed to death following a minor cut. Not blood fetecists. It's funny that someone who makes such a seemingly intelligent submission would be so far off the mark. The term for a blood feteshist is hematolagnia. When you put other people down for their preferences, you should at least be accurate when you quote technical terms.

Yes it is referencing a lot of drug use, but if you take the time to read any Hunter S. Thompson you would realize all of the connections. Right from the start, the name of the song is Bat Country. If anyone is familiar with Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas they will know the quote "We can't stop here, this is bat country." And why did he think they were in "bat country" because he was dosed up on a lot of drugs. And of course "he who makes a beast out of himself gets rid of the pain of being a man" has Thompson written all over it. I mean yeah the actual song has very few Thompson references, but there are mainly a bunch of different drug references. The main parts that contrast the song are the H.S.T. parts and the fact that the music video pulls several scenes directly from Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas starring johnny depp.

God were most of you wrong this song is about dropping acid anyone who has dropped would know. And then not just is it about just that it's also about taking your mind to greater heights which select people when dropping acid get super intellegance. And slot of their songs refer to the end which depicted in the Bible is here. Only the ones with the power of understanding will follow their meanings. Those of you who continue to live in sin your time to be saved is almost up.you will be buried alive it will be your fucking nightmare and hail to the king the one and only.

Also I feel there is a part in the song everyone is leaving out. At the end he says "I am to weird to live but much to rare to die" this was a quote from Dr. Thompson in reference to his attorney (whom he refers to as Dr. Gonzo in Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas) The obvious quote at the beginning of the song (which they even credit to him right off the bat). I mean come on its not partially about Thompson its a lyric depiction of his whole Vegas trip. "Mental fictions follow me" which is obviously alluding to his hallucinations which is a huge theme through out his work in general let alone FALILF. "No one can save me and you know I don't want the attention" Thompson refers several times to trying to not draw attention to themselves during the "trip" (Pun intended) also they say "I've been sane so long my vision is unclear" which if you know anything about Hunter (I believe) is a reflection upon his style of writing. Gonzo journalism is a form of coverage in which the writer immerse himself in the story to gross extents. Thompson believed that in order to truly cover a story the author had to submerse himself as a subject not an outsider. For HST this meant copious amounts of drugs in order to be part of yet stand outside of the spectacle at hand. These are just my thoughts, I am a huge Thompson fan. My favorite author and personal hero. His work is (no doubt) bad ass. "Buy the ticket, take the ride"~HST

"He who makes a beast out of himself gets rid of the pain of being a man" to me means that taking drugs makes you less of a man...? Don't really know how to explain in. As in, you are now a beast that isn't man enough to handle life and its troubles

there is NOTHING funnier to me ,t han someone who comes with their A_game, and has ZERO clue as to what they are talking about..

Hemophiliacs refer to people who bleeding disorders in which it takes a long time for the blood to clot.

    lmfao... fabulous attempt, though...

"He who makes a beast of himself gets rid of the pain of being a man." Is actually a Samuel Johnson quote.. but I am assuming that Avenged Sevenfold are referring to H.S.T. in using it...

Has anyone ever heard Bat Country used as another name for Hell? I mean, when you go with that the song makes 100% sense. After reading what other people have said it fits in pretty well.

The quote at the beginning of the song "He who makes a beast out of himself, gets rid of the pain of being a man" was first written by the 18th century poet Dr. Samuel Johnson. Even in the beginning of the music video it has his name next to the quote ( -Dr. Johnson)
it basically means it is easier to turn to drugs, alcohol, and gambling then to face the pain and emotions of every common man.
