Avenged Sevenfold: God Hates Us Meaning
God Hates Us Lyrics
TOTAL NIGHTMARE!
You wanna hear my side?
You need to drown to know.
When all the times it hurt me to fuck you,
I built a wall with your blood to show!
GOD SAVE US!
GOD SAVE US ALL!
GOD HATES US!
GOD HATES US...

#1 top rated interpretation:I believe this song is about someone already in hell warning someone else about the path that they are on. He screams for God to save him but he is already damned. He tells this person "You better take your time You better take it slow Cause when you see the one There's nothing left to show" because he is now already damned himself and when he sees God he will be sent to hell and live in a total nightmare himself.

#2 top rated interpretation:actually, the key word here is "all", NOT "hates". they could have said "god smells us. god smells us all." or replaced 'hates' with literally ANY verb and it would have the exact same meaning.
as saints, they know that god will NEVER forsake us. i think what is meant by the "god hates us. god hates us all." line is that god sees no man as more or less worthy than any other man. sin is sin and every living person is equally guilty. that was the whole point of sending his son to save us afterall. -

#3 top rated interpretation:Does anyone not remember the song dear god, we all know the band Members are Christian, it was proved when they were live at rock em ring, they made an announcement before singing god hates us, they said we should all be in church instead of singing this song. I love all of these interpretations. I’d like to hear what peoples thoughts are about their live version where Matt adds the lyrics “God Save Us, God Save Us All. God Hates Us, He Fucking Hates You All.

I listen to this song and I imagine a person losing faith or having a realization that God is not what we think.
The song starts off peaceful, a dream, we are with God. Then it takes a hard turn and we are now in a nightmare, without God.
The lyrics explain what it is to be human, to be able to die and suffer loss over the course of time. Something God does not understand (you wanna hear my side, you need to drown to know). Going against God's will became easier having gone through life's pain (with all the times it hurt me to fuck you, I built a wall with your blood to show).
"God save us" is our cry for help. Praying like we were taught with religion. "God hates us" is the realization that God will not save us and learning this creates madness (total nightmare!).
Although we had bad times in life, our faith kept us going, but something changed that. We called out for God and got nothing in return. Now that we have experienced this, we understand our status with God. God is above us and will not answer to us, like we were told to believe (nothing to trust, no one to fake, you'll find out sooner that it's best if we just know our place).
We feel tricked into this belief and followed God's demands like a slave (my infiltrated mind, my lacerated soul). Living this way has lead us to do, what has been done to us. We will no longer answer to God (I left myself for an idea I stole).
This is not a decision made easily, but over the course of a lifetime. Choosing to part ways with God will leave you alone, in this life and the next (you better take your time, you better take is slow, cause when you seek the one, there's nothing left to show).
When the lyrics are finished we are taken out of the nightmare and back to a dream. We are back to the belief that God will save us. -
I’m pretty sure the song is about a person going to sleep living his total nightmare as a damned to hell man. While someone is telling him is fate if he keeps choosing the path he’s on. That’s why at the end they tell total nightmare agin and the intro replays it’s basically him re awaking.

This song is about The Rev. They say "God hates us, God hates us all" because they are angry and blame God for the death of The Rev. They think God hates them and that's why he took Jimmy.

I have heard an interpretation with a lot of themes similar to the other interpretations here.
The song says "fucking nightmare"
One interpretation involves a nightmare in which we are all sinners, however, God hates us rather than loves us. -
This interpretation has been marked as poor. view anyway

A possible guess that part of this song is about a Virgin that lost her virginity to a individual that now feels hurt and symbolically created a bloody wall between themselves, feeling not only like a sinner, but a rapist and a killer that's in a nightmare relationship, lying and going south. This controversial song can also be about the de-throned or fallen angel, like a old shooting ''firey comet'' a omen symbol who might have become Satan the ''god of this world[earth] that hates us all'', ever since god created Adam and Eve that made him very angry and jealous of them, not wanting to bow down to any men, made and created in the image of god. Also to my understanding, believe that God[The Creator] from the beginning, like in Genesis of the Bible, never hated or hates His creation of Angels and men[gods], but did hate their sins of rebellion committed then that got con-fused with ours, even up to now that we are still committing against God.

I think all of these comments have good points and some truth to them. The band caught my attention in a major way after they made the "Nightmare" album (approx. 2011). I mean I knew who Avenged Sevenfold was for years before then but mostly just from the radio. But after I bought Nightmare, I had to dig further, I sat down at the computer for about a month and learned everything about A7X and in the first week I bought everything they ever put out musically. On the A7X journey one thing a fan should really know is that they search their souls high and low, constantly. This is one about the darkness in that search, I believe these guys are a lot more than what people know. POWERFUL. But I truly believe they are on the "GOOD" team, rather than the dark side. I would hope so, they definitely seem to be good dudes. I believe Jesus Christ is THE TRUTH, THE WAY AND THE LIFE, I see that Truth in A7X. I am not a saint, I have been a monster and I have lived in much darkness in my day. But that which is concealed by darkness will always be revealed by the light. Through my battles and scars I have learned to truly appreciate that light and the grace of GOD. I think A7X takes our souls through the important parts of this lives journey. Bravo boys keep up the good work. Peace Love Light Ryan G.

I know many people think it's a ''anti-christian'' song. In my opinion, it's about going through a rough time, like being a religous person, and than something happens so you turn around saying ''God Hates Us''
-
The song is about the feelings you go through when you lose a loved one. You always want to question everything, which is why first he says god save us. He's not LITERALLY saying that he thinks god hates us. He's. Just stating that they lost jimmy, and they feel like they've been forsaken.
-
whenever we are going through tough times it seems as though god hates us but he is just trying to make us stronger. if god hates us we wouldnt even have a chance at salvation.
-
There is something I want all of you to know. God loves us, and hates our sin.
Romans 3:23
For all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God, but the gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord. -
Actually what many people dont know is that 7x made this song while jimmy was alive..dont believe me whatch their interview when fans ask them a bunch of questions..shadows said to jimmy "hey man what if I just said god hates us?" jimmy was like yeah say it louder!!! "jimmy was all about the crazy shit" said shadows and thats how it was made.
-
i think its talking about the people who pray and ask god to do things for them, hence "god save us". But if they dont get what they want from him they get upset, "god hates us"
