Avenged Sevenfold: Scream Meaning
Song Released: 2008
Scream Lyrics
Woke animal feelings in me
Took over my sense and I lost control
I'll taste your blood tonight
You know I make you wanna scream
You know I make you wanna run from me baby
But know it's too late...

#1 top rated interpretation:yeah i think it's about some one that rapes ("You know I make you wanna scream You know I make you wanna run from me baby", "Cover me, unwanted clemency" the quotes go on and on...") and then kills ("Scream till there's silence")
then feels guilt or some emotion to that degree and tries justifying or explaining it rationally "We've all had a time where we've lost control" "I'm hoping I'm wrong but I know I'm right, I'll hunt again one night."

#2 top rated interpretation:This song is obviously about really really dirty sex, or possibly rape. while he wants her to enjoy the experience, he is more focused on self fulfillment. I personally think he is trying to justify what he's doing by saying "we've all had a time where we've lost control, we've all had a time to grow weak, I'm hoping I'm wrong but I know I'm right..."

3TOP RATED
#3 top rated interpretation:to me it makes me think of our animal instinct. He makes himself sound like a vampire though "ill taste youre blood tonight" but mostly it sounds like he is talking about our animal instinct. As humans we do have some animal instinct in our brains from the time when we were cavemen. thats what i think.
-
I believe it's about rape and/or murder
-
This interpretation has been marked as poor. view anyway
-
This reminds me of my wolf inside, it's about the pleasure of killing.

Whenever i listen to this song, i have always imagined kinky, animalistic sex.
When i was a sophomore i remember akwardly listening to it with the guy i liked alone in his room and he said "i think this song is about sex" and i just laughed because i thought that it was so obviously about sex, but everyone sees it differently, thats the magic of songs -
Actually I easily can see how this song is strictly about the pleasure of killing. In fact rape, vampires, and the like never entered my mind. In the lines "Scream scream scream THE WAY YOU WOULD IF I ravaged your body. Scream scream scream THE WAY YOU WOULD IF ravaged your mind." he is telling her to scream like he was doing those things. It doesn't say he is actually doing it. At least he doesn't think he that is what he is doing. The thing is rapist and serial killers have a lot in common. They are both about control so they both ravage their victims bodies just in different ways. They both ravage their victims minds trying to make them feel as if they deserve it or wanted it in some way. Which gets into the "Scream from the pleasure unmask your desire." line. On its own it doesn't make much sense, but if you remember the line "So warm as I'm setting you free." he is trying to justify what he is doing by saying this is what she wants. This in turn gets into the "Cover me, unwanted clemency." line. First thing, for those like me who don't know, clemency means to be merciful or lenient. Another thing the fact that he asks for it to cover him and then calls it unwanted shows an inner conflict he is having. Which brings into mind the lines "I'm hoping I'm wrong but I know I'm right. I'll hunt again one night." He knows what he is doing is wrong and wants to stop, but knows he won't. He enjoys it too much. This line can mean two things. One, it can be that because he sees himself as an angel of mercy, in a sense, that he desires this clemency so he can feel the pleasure of killing again. Yet he wants to stop so it is unwanted. Second, he could be asking that clemency cover him so he could bring himself to let his victim go. Yet he desires the kill so much that if it where to come it would be unwanted. Perhaps it means both.

Sorry, I don't see how anyone (including M. Shadows) could argue that this song is *just* about "the pleasure of killing". Various lines like "scream scream scream the way you would if I ravaged your mind" or "unwanted clemency" or "unmask your desire" make little sense from a pure "pleasure of killing" interpretation.
IMO, it's either about:
-Rape, followed by murder, of a victim. The various lines that indicate pleasure from the victim just be the attacker's belief that she enjoys it. Or perhaps she really does, for some reason.
-A session of some kind of originally-consensual hardcore BDSM sex gone awry when the man loses control and kills the woman.
The general idea of "scream in pleasure (sex) vs. scream in pain (murder)" is definitely there, though. -
Necrophelia.

My boyfriend/finance sang this to me so I had to look it up.... should I be scared?? >_<
-
Pleasure of killing.
-
Rape is what this song is about. The outro guitar to this song is amazing.
-
Its talking about the pleasure of killing
-
This isn't about rape! I watched a video where Matt explained it. It was about murder and craving for violence and blood. Although you can interpret them yourself, the way I see it is through a murderer's eyes.
-
the blood-curdling scream at the beginning explains the song well, don't you think? a scream as if she(i've heard that val did the scream) saw a monster o something freaky. but i would be really scared if i was going to be reippd.(pardon my dorkish)

I agree with "march 25,2010 08:08".Im just sayn my opinion it may not be correct but,I believe its about rape and murder. Because in the lyrics:
"You know I make you wanna scream
(Basically his pleauser (her pain) makes her wanna scream).
You know I make you wanna run from me baby
but now it's too late you've wasted all your time
(she want to run form her rapist/murder,but she cannot for some reaspon.)"
The murder part could be connected to the lyrics:
"Cherishing, those feelings pleasuring
(feelings of power and control over the weak).
Cover me, unwanted clemency
(unsure but clemency means compassion and ect)
Scream till there's silence
(Kill till dead)
Scream while there's life left
(Scream for your life),vanishing
Scream from the pleasure unmask your desire
perishing"
(Scarcastic "scream for the pleasure of the rapist/murder"). -
it sounds to me like hes some type of creature/animal. Plus he says “ill hunt again one night” umm animals do tht. He even says hes settin her free. Murder. Setting her free as in her soul bein set free.
Sooo it kinda sounds like she wanted to be wht ever he is so he made her into it OR he just was huntin & came across his dinner bein her.....idfk only A7X kno for sure wht its abt.:)
