I believe that this song means that if you are in the military you will see horrific things, and you might yourself end up yourself,dead. i also believe that this song means that you don't know your outcome, you might have your whole life ahead of you and have it abruptly end, do not take life for granted. this line from the song "now Ifind myself in my own blood,
the damage done is far beyond repair,
I never put my faith in up above,
but now, I'm hopin' someones there"
supports my statement about seeing horrific things and you might yourself end up dead. this line,

I never meant to hurt the ones who cared,

you know, no one said it's far" this supports my other statement about never taking life for granted
