Billy Talent: Surrender Meaning
Song Released: 2007
Surrender Lyrics
Waiting for someone that she'll never meet.
Talk over coffee for an hour or two,
She wonders why I'm always in a good mood.
Killin' time before she struts her stuff,
She needs support and I've become...
-
The song is about two friends, one male, and one female. The song is told from the Male perspective, about how he is in love with his female friend, yet she doesn't see it. She has had relationships in the past, but they never work out, so she thinks she is looking for a guy she will never meet. He is always in a good mood, but it seems it is only when he is around her. She only sees him when they are together, and so she sees the good mood. She leans on her male friend for help, and he is always there for her. He would like to be more for her, but she only sees him as one to judge her, not as one to engage a relationship with.
The male is asking the female to "Surrender" herself to him, hoping she will realise that they belong together. He lost hope in the relationship ever happening, and he thinks she has found it.
He knows what he is looking for, but she has so many defences put up to prevent getting hurt again. If he could, he would have told her sooner, but he knows she would shoot him down.
He views her as the "One flower in a field of Weeds". He searched for so long, thinking he found the right one for him. However, the flower, the girl, won't ever belong to him. Yet, he still has hope. He thinks she will one day realise that he the one for her.
He never had the courage to ask her if they could enter into a relationship, and he feels it is too late to do so now.
